If the thermostat is good and the radiator is full the only thing left is the water pump. I recommend the Haynes repair manual for addressing the replacement of the water pump.

Check out water pump for proper circulation of coolant. Radiator good? To avoid overheating use your heater full blast with open windows.

Don't remove radiator cap when engine is hot.

Is your reservoir full to the right level? Check hoses for a leak. I would have the system flushed if there are no hose leaks in case air is in the system which can cause overheating. This can be done for about $50-$100 or less at many places. Sometimes when a thermostat is replaced the system isn't bled correctly. I hope its not your water pump, but it may be.

Good luck.

2006 kia optima overheating, no apparent leaks, top radiator hose gets hot lower never heats up, fans dont come on

I would be looking at the radiator fans themselves, especially if the fans are open
framed motors. I had the same problem with an intermittent fan on a PT cruiser,
If your A/C doesn't seem to be working right at stop lights then the fans are
most likely not operating correctly since they assist the condensing coil when idling.
Second thing I would suspect is a thermostat which is stuck closed. (This will cause overheat).
Hope this is helpful.

CAR OVERHEATING FIRST CHECK FOR LOW COOLANT IN THE RADIATOR COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG.IF COOLANT LEVEL IN OVERFLOW JUG LOW REFILL ADD COOLANT BACK TO THE FULL COLD MARK.PUT RADAITOR CAP ON COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG START ENGINE LET IT IDLE UNTIL IT OPERATING TEMPERATURE.MAKE SURE TOP RADIATOR HOSE GETTING HOT WHILE ENGINE WARM UP.IF TOP RADIATOR HOSE DONT GET HOT WHILE ENGINE IDLING YOUR THERMOSTAT COULD BE STUCK CLOSE CAUSING CAR TO OVERHEAT.IF TOP HOSE IS GETTING HOT.CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAKS CHECK TOP RADIATOR HOSE AND BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE FOR LEAKS.CHECK FOR LEAKS AT THE RADIATOR CORES AND PLASTIC SIDE CONTAINERS.IF ALL IS GOOD ENGINE OVERHEATING WHILE IN A LONG TRAFFIC LINE, COOLANT FANS NOT COMING ON.COULD HAVE FAULTY ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR OR BLOWN COOLING FAN FUSE OR RELAY.COULD HAVE PCM FAULT.MAKE COOLING FAN ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS AND WIRING NOT DAMAGE OR BROKEN.

2001 Monte Carlo. Overheating and heater blowing cold air. Already replaced intake Gaskets, cap, Thermstat, had coolant in in oil before intake gaskets. Oil is clean now. It seems to be loosing coolant....

Park the car uphill, take cap off radiator, start car, fill radiator, let it warm up until thermostat opens, bleed air out, fill to the neck of the radiator and watch for bubbles coming up. Once you have bled the air, if gas continues to come out, you have a blown head gasket. Also check the exhaust for excess moisture and the smell of coolant. You may be able to determine which gasket is bad by looking at the plugs and/or running a compression test. Let me know if you have more questions.

My 1996 toyota avalon is overheating. There are no leaks, thermostat is new, radiator is new and has been flushed, changed the fan relay. Don't know why its overheating.

Is the fan coming on? If not, possible lower radiator fan switch/sensor? No leaks... So overflow tanks level stays stable? How do you know it is overheating? Elevated temp guage? Engine smells overheated? Both? We need more info.

1999 alero changed thermstat and the car will intermitantly overheat there seems to be no pattern.

BLEED AIR OUT COOLANT SYSTEM.WAIT UNTIL ENGINE COOL DOWN.REMOVE COOLANT OVER FLOW PRESSURE CAP.IF YOU HAVE 3.1 OR 3.4 ENGINE OPEN AIR BLEED SCREW ON WATER PUMP BYPASS HOSE.OPEN BLEED SCREW.WATCH COOLANT IN OVER FLOW AS YOU OPEN BLEED SCREW COOLANT WILL DROP IN OVER FLOW JUG. AS IT DROPS CLOSE BLEED SCREW ADD MORE COOLANT IN OVER FLOW JUG DO THIS UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL STAY AT COLD FULL MARK.WHEN DONE TIGHTEN BLEED SCREW DONT OVER TIGHTEN IT OR IT WILL STRIP OUT BREAK.CRANK CAR UP UNTIL THERMOSTAT OPEN THAT WHEN TOP RADIATOR HOSE GET HOT.WATCH COOLANT GAUGE,IF ENGINE TEMPERATURE RISES TURN OFF ENGINE WAIT UNTIL COOL.REMOVE RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP USING A RAG TO KEEP FROM GETTING HANDS SCALED.ADD MORE COOLANT IF NEEDED WHEN ENGINE COOLANT STOP DROPPING IN OVER FLOW JUG AND ENGINE DONT OVER HEAT AIR IS OUT OF COOLANT SYSTEM.

Overheating in 11 degree weather

Your thermostat has failed and is stuck in the closed position, thereby not letting the coolant circulate through the radiator.
