Question about 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

1 Answer

My 2001 Chevy Suburban is making a loud ticking noise intermittently, it mostly happens at stop lights, but most especially when I start it in the morning. The oil pressure light and gauge show low to zero oil pressure, what causes this and what is the average going rate for a "reputable" mechanic to fix it? Thank in advance for the help!

If the oil light and the gauge is showing low to zero pressure then you need to have the pressure checked by someone with a mechanical gauge to varify the pressure is low. Is the oil level at the full mark? I have seen where the oil pickup tube o ring gets hard over time and cracks which can allow the oil pump to draw in air and cause low oil pressure. If you run the engine with very low oil pressure for any length of time there is a chance that the engine may need to be replaced due to lack of lubrication. The chevrolet dealerships still provide very good service. Hope this helps.

Clicking is caused by lack of oil in the hydraulic lifters. If the car has had regular oil changes, the problem is probably the oil pump. If not, the engine may be shot with this much mileage. The part is $150 at autozone, but a shop may charge more. The labor for this job is about a day, so the total can easily be $600-900. If you have more questions, please let me know.

Ticking sounds like a dry lifter, when was the last time you changed the oil and filter? Humming sounds like you need a tire rotation because of uneven tire wear.

could be that your oil pump is clogged. your ticking it probably your valves starving for oil. Alot of times your oil will be fine but your oil pump will get clogged and cause the iol to take time to get to rhe valves

1993 GMC Suburban K1500 Air Condition Fan and vent choice problem

MIKE.
#1) YOU PROBEBLY HAVE A BAD BLOWER MOTOR OR POSS. A BURNT CONNECTION @ THE MOTOR. IF THE FAN WORKS ON ALL SPEEDS EVEN INTERMITTENTLY. THEN THE BLOWER RESISTOR IS OK WICH CONTROLLS THE VOLTAGE TO THE MOTOR TO GET THE DIFFERENT SPEEDS. WHEN THE RESISTOR BURNS OUT THE FAN JUST WON'T WORK ON CERTAIN SPEEDS. THE "RELAY" IS ONLY USED FOR HI-SPEED FAN USE. TRY HITTING THE MOTOR WHEN YOU GET IT NOT TO WORK AND IF IT STARTS THN YOU HAVE A BAD MOTOR.

#2) THE NOISE YOU HEAR WHEN TURNING THE IGN. ON AND OFF IS PROBABLY THE DEFROST DOOR CONTROLL ACTUATOR/MOTOR WICH HAS A POTENTIOMETER IN IT THAT TELLS IT WHEN TO STOP MOVING AS IT REACHES THE CORRECT POSITION. WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY OFF IT BY FEDERAL LAW HAS TO RETURN TO THE DEFROST POSITION IN CASE OF FAILURE. THE LITTLE SPLINES IN THE MOTOR OR ON THE SHAFT CAN GET STRIPPED WHEN THIS HAPPENS. TRY DUPLICATING THE NOISE BY SELECTING THE DEFROST ON AND OFF WITH THE KEY ON.
I WILL CHECK FOR YOUR FEEDBACK LATER
