Question about Mazda Protege

I have a 98 mazda protege and i have a leak comming from the radiator...it wont keep water. Every time i get in i have to put water in or else it will overheat. Bare with me...Im a female who knows how to drive and put gas in...thats about it...LOL. I have been told that its my water pump going out. So i am planning on replacing it. I was wondering if you had any suggestions for me for replacing it. I wont be the one doing it. My childs father will...But he has never fix one before. Its a new car to me..But the person sold me a LEMON! Go figure! not just a water leak but a oil leak too...YaY me. So how hard is it to fix? How long do you think it will take? How expensive is the parts? I hope i am not bothering you...and i look forward to hearing your awesome answers...Hoping you really are a mazda guru...E-mail me at Caseyjune25@yahoo.com Thanks hun Casey

First you need to find the leak. The car will continue to overheat until leak is fixed. Other parts may get damged. Did you visually see the radiator leaking or did you see a leak from that area? I would inspect hose clamps and radiator hoses first. The radiator is behind your cooling fans. I can give additional info if more is given

If the water is leaking from the rad ' it has nothing to do with the pump.........Be sure not to overlook something that will cost you more money than you have to spend.......As far as price, well i guess it depends on where you live......The oil leak may be from the front or rear oil seal on the oil pan itself.........Hope this helps you out.

My Mazda Soho fan is not working 98 so I'm afraid it will boil when I drive a long distance

You are Right as rain... DO not EVEN think about it.

You would be money ahead to pay the worst possible repair price or rent a car..

Not finding any '98 SOHO in the USA market data-bases I have available or I'd try to point you to your fuses, relays... and how to test your fan motor...

Putting a search for your viewing...

There seems to be a lot of chatter about a $40 fan controller
(sorry I didn't zero in better than this... )

My 98 Mazda Protege will go in reverse and first gear but won't go any place after that what's the problem

How does the fluid look and smell? If it's low and dark or black, strong burnt smell, it's time for a new car. If low and red, try filling to the full line(while running)Don't overfill!

I have a water leak on my 1996 Mazda Protege.it only leaks when it's running.

Plastic radiators are notorious for small cracks that you can't see when the engine is cool. Run your vehicle. As it warms up check for a very small spray. That is the first place I would look.

When I pour coolant into my 1991 Mazda Proteges radiator, it starts to fill then I see it leaking out of the front of motor. What could be the issue?

The leak you have my friend is either the Water Pump, any burst water hose (s) or any core plug (s). You need a qualified mechanic assistance.

My mazda protege had a leak in the radiator and we were told to put stop leak in it . when i dove off my car started to overheat . I put my heater on to keep the engine a little cooler and this only worke...

If a radiator leaks you buy a new one, common sense

The Stop Leak probably clogged your hearter core
Now you can remove that & try to clean it out or replace
it also

2002 Mazda protege heater only blows cold air and engine is over heating. What could be wrong with this car?

1. See if simply adding coolant fixes it. 2. Try replacing the thermostat and the radiator cap. One way to check the thermostat is to start the engine and feel the upper radiator hose. The hose should not feel uncomfortably hot until the engine has warmed-up and the thermostat opens. If the hose does not get hot, it means the thermostat is not opening.
2. Look for antifreeze leaks, inspect the radiator, water pump and hoses. 3. If there are no leaks, and the above steps don't correct the problem, you might have a blown head gasket.

My 1998 mazda protege overheated and now it wont start

SOUND LIKE BLOWED HEAD GASKET.BUT WAIT TO SEE IF ENGINE WILL CRANK WHEN ENGINE COOL DOWN.MOST CARS PCM WILL SHUT CAR DOWN TO KEEP FROM DAMAGING THE ENGINE.CHECK FOR LOW COOLANT.YOUR OVERHEATING PROBLEM COULD BE CAUSED BY BAD THERMOSTAT OR WATER PUMP.CHECK PUMP WEEP HOLE TO SEE IF LEAKING.IF YES REPLACE WATER PUMP.
