Question about Lincoln LS

1 Answer

After I start my 2001 Lincoln LS 6 cylinder, if I let it idle for too long (sometimes you can't help it at red lights or traffic) it will turn off automatically. It is happening more often than it used to. I used to be able to turn up the AC to make the rpm's go up, but that no longer has any effect. Could it be that my idle is set too low? Thank you in advance!

there is a bleed air plug in the upper radiator hose. be very careful because you can break the plug by trying to turn it full turns. it only needs to be turned about a quarter of a turn to half. you should also look into changing the pcv elbow. it gets a hole worn in it and causes the car to idle rough and even cut off in the drive thru line or traffic light. it is located towards the back of the engine and you may have to take off the intake cover and cam. i hope this helps.

Not familiar with security systems, but could be a blown fusible link, or bad Ignition switch. Test for current to switch and if none (usually bid red wire) check for blown fusible links near starter big wire or battery +.

Well I am a certified mechanic and I would pull the air cleaner housing open the throttle shoot some carb cleaner in it and if it starts even if only for few seconds your fuel pump is bad. If it doesn't than you need to scan the car with a scanner for no start codes. You can rent a scanner at most automotive part stores for a deposit and when you return it undamaged you get your money back. Usually costs nothing. But if you don't have any pressure on the fuel rail that is most likely your problem. You can clear all the dashboard codes and lights with a scanner if they don't straiten it out on its own. Disconnect battery for a few minutes sometimes that will clear old codes. Only clear codes if you have found out that the fuel pump was bad otherwise you'll need them codes for figuring out the no start problem. Bryan ASE master certified mechanic.

My 2001 Lincoln LS check charging system light flash on and off especially when I'm starting the car and stopping at traffic lights . I had my alternator and battery tested and both were fine.

Take it to Autozone or Oreillys and ask them to check your starter when cranking. You may want to look under your dash at the pedal mechanism. There is also an interlock switch for the starter and brake. Ask the parts people about that part.

If the pedals are rubbing a wire under the dash you could have a big short and it is grounding the alternator. You have to push on the brake to start the car. The interlock could be bad.

Very common problem is about a dime size hole wearing in the rubber elbow on the PCV valve located on the driver side rear of the intake manifold.
