Hard starting after setting for a while, seems like it is losing pressure sowhere in the fuel system runs fine after it is started. thought plugged gas filter was the problem/ still the same gas line was checked for leaks

after the truck is started it restarts and runs fine but usually if it sits fof a length of time the problem returns.
But some times it can start normally for days and the start to act up again.

Also today I noticed gas leaking on the ground when filling the tank and seemed like

the goose neck was partially pluged ,backing the gas up and running out somewhere behind the the rear quarter

It's either the fuel pump check valve allowing pressure loss (change pump). Or, it's the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail. not likely though.

try turning key to ON and wait 5 seconds before trying to start. That lets pump run 5 seconds before it shuts off.

look in the top of the filler neck for rust and a hole. There is a vent ube inside or alongside the filler neck to let air out while fuel goes in. check both for leaking.

Why does the engine of my 1998 Chevy Cavalier z24 start rough when cold?

It sounds like your fuel filter is clogged, or the fuel pump is failing. I would change the filter first and see if that does it.

Check your fuel pressure. It may be low, or losing pressure from a bad pressure regulator. A thorough test of your fuel system seems in order. (A pressure test can also detect a bad regulator, if it's done properly.)

Sounds like a fuel problem. you could try hooking a pressure gage up to your check valve on your fuel rail see if you are losing fuel pressure. maybe a fuel filter or something thats just one thing it could be out of a bunch of things something you may want to try. does is start bucking or anthing or just straight lose all power and die?

93 ZJ 4.0L has intermittent fuel-pressure drop when starting

You have a good theory but haven't finished testing so you can verify it...check actual fuel delivery when in no-start...also probe the pump wire on the pump side of the harness and see if you are in fact not getting power to the pump all the time. (also in no-start). Don't test after it gets started, or testing will tell you what you already know...It runs fine once started...tests will then tell you it's fine (you know it's not) Problem itself could be anything from a bad connection somewhere to a balky pump.

If fuel filter hasn't been done lately I would start there & if you can, have fuel pressure tested while your at it. You may have tired fuel pump but pressure test will confirm. If you recently filled up somewhere different last time you got gas, I'd also try some "Heet" or similar just incase you got a tank full with some water in it.
