Loosen lock nut. clamp vice grips on inner tie rod to hold it from turning. Then unscrew tie rod end, counterclockwise. count the number of turns so you can screw new one on in same place. get front end alignment.

may need to heat the tie rod end with a torch to break it free from the rust.

soak for a week with penetrating oil first.

CV joint - wheel side needs to be replaced :) right wheel, a lot of people drive like that for a while before they fix it so don't worry, also it shouldn't be soooo expensive

I have loose tie rod ends on both the right and left side of a ford 1999 expedition. On the passenger side the bottom bolt is missing completely. Do I need to replae both with a whole new assembly?


If the tie rods are just loose,you replace the bolts

Obviously if the end joint or brg is worn & loose you replace
them. (not the entire arm,just the joint)

You can replace the bolt or the tie rods yourself,
then have the front aligned within a few days as the
toe will be off.

I assume your talking outer ties rod ends,
not inner --- inside the steering rack boots!!

The inner joint does require the complete, what
looks like a rod or arm to be replaced

How can I remove an altenator from a 98 ford contour se 2.5 l motor. And what are any suggestions?

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Release the drive belt tensioner and remove the drive belt from around the alternator.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle.
  4. Remove the passenger side front wheel and fender well splash guard.
  5. Disconnect the passenger side outer tie rod end from the spindle. See .
  6. Remove the exhaust system Y-pipe.
  7. Unplug the connectors and remove the cables from the alternator.
  8. Remove the alternator brace retaining bolts and the brace from the vehicle.
  9. Remove the passenger side halfshaft. See .
  10. Remove the alternator mounting bolts and remove the alternator from the passenger side fenderwell.

To install:
  1. Install the alternator on the bracket and tighten the mounting bolts to 29-40 ft. lbs. (40-55 Nm).
  2. Install the passenger side halfshaft. See .
  3. Install the alternator brace and tighten the retaining bolts to 15-22 ft. lbs. (20-30 Nm).
  4. Install the alternator connectors and the cables. Tighten the terminal nut to 80-97 inch lbs. (9-11 Nm).
  5. Install the exhaust system Y-pipe.
  6. Install the passenger side outer tie rod end to the spindle.See .
  7. Install the passenger side fender well splash guard and front wheel.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Release the drive belt tensioner and install the drive belt pulley over the alternator pulley.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.

On the front passenger side, I replaced the ball joint (it was bad), the tie rod (bad) the wheel bearing (bad) and the CV HalfShaft (bad)....yet.... there is STILL shaking on the passenger side of the car....


The new tires could be out of balance,or even though they are new could have a bad belt in one of them,If it was doing this,the problem,if it was there before the tires were installed,have the front end checked.And you may need a front end alignment.If the tie rod,and ball joint were bad on that side,then chances are the other side may have bad front end parts also.You know it needs alignment after replacing tie rod ends don`t you?Eye balling the tie rod end does not get it back in line,and it may have needed the alignment anyway,Have a 4 wheel alignment done to make sure that is out og the equation while diagnosing the problem.

How to replace right front axle 2000 buick lesabre


Lift the passenger side of vehicle. Remove tire/wheel assembly. Remove the axle nut. Remove the tie rod end nut. Smack the side of the housing the tie rod end goes into to pop the tie rod end loose and out. Remove the sway bar link. Remove the lower ball joint nut. Smack the housing the lower ball joint goes into to pop the ball joint loose. Pry the lower control arm down to pop the ball joint out. swivel the rotor and strut assembly to the side. Pop the axle out. Reassemble in the reverse order.

Nothing pulled loose or broken. The upper control arm was warped really bad.

Need to replace steering arm on pass side on 1998


Your description leads me to believe that the spindle is bent. This is the piece that the tie rod attaches to near the wheel. Sometimes the tie rod is attached to a piece that attaches to the spindle which is rather intuitive. Just remove the tie rod end, unbolt the arm that attaches to the spindle and replace the arm. In this case the only special tool you'll need is a tie rod seperator.

If the arm is a part of the spindle and cannot be removed easily:

1) Put vehicle in park and safety brake on - chock the rear wheels
2) Lift passenger side front wheel and put on jack stands
3) Remove wheel and have a friend apply brake pressure
4) Loosen hub nut with appropriate socket (22 to 35mm)
You can purchase the socket from your local auto parts store
You'll need a large breaker bar, its torqued to about 100ft-lbs
5) Remove tie rod end with a tie rod/ball joint separator
This can also be purchased at your local auto parts store.
Some spindles are made with tie rod end permanantly attached
If it is removable, remove nut and drive the separator tool
between the tie rod and spindle using a large hammer.
It'll eventually break free from the spindle.
6) Remove the strut with a strut spring compressor tool
WARNING - THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS
This can be purchased at your local auto parts store.
Compress spring before removing lower bolts (2 of them).
The strut may be left on vehicle but the spring must be
compressed.
7) Remove caliper and break assembly
Loosen the two slide bolts that go through the caliper assembly
Remove caliper and breaks - let it hang by the tubing
8) Detach upper and lower ball joints with seperator tool as in #5
9) Finally remove the hub nut from #4
The spindle should slide off the axle
10) Repair or replace the spindle and put it all back together in
reverse order using new wheel bearings. Pack them with axle
grease if theyr'e not the sealed type.

NOTE: The tie rod end may need to be replaced also. The vehicle will need a front end allignment. Be sure to torque the hub nut to the manufacturers specifications - at least 75ft-lbs. You should probably replace the wheel bearings.

1997 ford f250 steering problem


Check the tie rod, tie rod ends, and ball joints for excessive play. Jack up the front on either side and have a helper push and pull on the top or bottom of the tire. Watch the area where the hub pivots on the axle. if both sides check out. with the truck on the ground, have the helper turn the steeribg wheel back and forth about a half turn with the key off. Look for loose outer tie rod ends, and inner tie rod ends.
F-250 4x4 steering componants are pretty basic, If your unsure what to look for then take it to someone that knows how to fix it. Correctly. If you replaced any of the joints. It would be in your best interest to get it alighned.

Replacing inner tie rod passenger side


remove your wheel to access before you remove tie rod mark the thread on the rack side, then its a matter of removing the split pin and loosening off the nut closes to the wheel then give it a good wack dont hit the thread once its free leave it until you crack the nut on the rack side once you have done this completely remove the old tie rod install the new one and wind it on to the position where you have marked and then put it back together your alignment still might not be accurate though it shouldnt be far out i would suggest a wheel alignment afterwards
