Procedure for removing rear brake drums on a 1998 rav 4

First off make sure that they spin freely and the brake is dragging on it. Otherwise you will have to back off the rear brake shoes. To do that there should be a rubber plug in the face of the drum. Remove that and put that hole on the very top and use a light to see inside. There should be a round piece that looks like a gear and a piece of metal that goes across the teeth of this gear. Using to small flat head screwdrivers lift up the metal piece off the gear and then spin the gear until you back off the parking shoes. Then if you can't get the drums off by hitting the face of the drum with a hammer there are 2 holes next to 2 of the wheel studs. These holes should be threaded. You can put bolts in these and the size bolts you need is 8x1.25 metric. Tighten these down until you feel pressure on the hub and then hit it with the hammer again and keep repeating retightening and hitting it until it comes off.

Brake lights not working... friend tested all sorts of things, used a ''needle''? ... said something under the steering question is: how much should this cost to fix? and, until I can pay to fix...

Yes your going to get stopped. Do you think they'll look the other way. I've this be as simple as the connection at the bulb is bad and bent some metal to make the conntact.
Not sure what under the steering wheel has to do with brake lights????

Parking brake light stays on.

Do you have a separate parking brake light and a "regular" brake light? Most vehicles only have one light, it illuminates when the parking brake is set, but it also illuminates when the system detects a failure anywhere in the brake system.

You could have a separate light for the anti-lock brake system (ABS ).

Your description of a light that is on till you apply the brakes is usually a sign of some sort of system brake failure. Start with brake fluid level, then inspect the brakes at each wheel, looking for a leak.

If nothing detected there, then you likely have something more serious. (Master brake cyclinder bad, possible something in the ABS brakes, etc.)

Others may disagree, but I would suggest not driving the vehicle (except to a mechanic) until this is corrected.

20 amp fuse for brake lights continually blows out

you have a short in the wiring to your brake circuit.check the pedal switch,it could be cracked and shorting out.those switches are known for having the tail lights stay on until you hit it a few times.the other thing to check is the light assemblies.there may be enough corrosion to cause a short.instead of a fuse, wire a bulb across an open fuse.when the short shows up the bulb will light.use a 25 watt bulb.

I have a 2004 kia amanti and when I was driving I accidently hit the emergency brake and when I notice the light was on I pulled over about a mile down the road. I release the brake and went home, but I...

Hitting the emergency brake's has nothing to with the brake lights on the back of the vehicle , you had to have this problem before an just didn't notice . Are all the brake lights lit ? High mount lamps too.. ? The regular one's are controlled by a BCM - body computer .

Left turn signal

Sounds like a wiring problem . Electric is feeding across from brake light ,probably a bare place in the wiring. Check behind the tailight.
