Hi, you will have to drop the tank to change it,I would not suggest cutting hole in floor, you might cut wires or even worse fuel lines ( ca-boom ) the tank is not to hard to drop.( should just be 2 straps holding tank up. good luck. yz-maniac

How to drop fuel tank on 1988 surburban

Drain the gas tank. I didn't have a lift so I used a floor jack under neath the gas tank. I used a piece of plywood on top of floor jack that would fit between tank straps. Take the fill tube loose, take fuel lines and electrical connectors loose. Take tank straps loose, you may have to drop tank a little to reach some connections. If I remember correctly the fuel pump is in the middle of tank. I don't know if you would want to cut hole in floor of surburban to reach pump? I don't have any info about cutting that hole, if you try that, that is your responsibility.

Can I cut an access hole in floor above fuel tank to remove fuel pump on a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am instead of dropping fuel tank and if so, where would I cut out access hole location?

You would have to figure out a way to cut the floor without cutting the tank. The gap is less than one inch. And the fuel lines come out with the sending unit. They have to be disconnected a few inches away from the sending unit.

Do you have to drop the fuel tank to change the fuel pump?

IN most veihicles the fuel pump is on top of the fuel tank so yes you have to drop the tank. I have seen my friend cut hole in the floor board and tank the fuel pump out that way but im sure you dont want to do it that way.

What is the best way to access the fuel pump to repalce it without adding expenses? They want to cut the floor and do it. Will this cause problems in the winter? We live in Michigan with a lot of deep...

Too bad GM doesnt provide a cover to access tank without dropping the tank. I would think creating this "hole" would be quite the endeavor and done correctly would add quite the additional time and expense. Decline cutting holes and drop the tank in order to service the pump/sender. Any reputable repair firm should or would never recomend this measure in order to access the pump in the fuel tank I would hope....

Can I cut a hole thru the trunk to access fuel pump?

If you can do it without damaging anything. it is all up to you. I would make sure to seal it back tight after cutting the hole. Don't use anything bit a chisel. I have never seen it done but it's your car.
