Question about 2006 Mercury Milan

Open Question

My 2006 Milan will not shift from 1st around 10-15 mph the engine gets to 4-5k rpm's...I took it to a mechanic and the diagnostic test shows that the transmission shift solenoid is the issue. He is telling me now that I should replace the entire transmission...another mechanic told me the part is $80 plus labor. I am at a total loss as to what I should do...common sense says to try the $80 + labor. And do you know if the transmission shift solenoid is located internally or externally?

SOURCE: fuel pump relay location on a 1990 mercury grand marquis.

check the fuse .if the fuel pump was bad you blew the fuse . there is a inertia switch in the trunk or under the dash you could check . push the red button to reset relay should be under the hood in the fuse box check your book if you have one.

SOURCE: hard shifting from first gear to second after complete stop

It is in the bottom pan. In order to replace it you have to replace all the solenoids. They are all built into a solenoid pack. What does it do when it shifts to 2nd? Not at all or slips?

there is no chip in the trans. sorry.
check fuses.
then this time scan it and write down the DTCs errors numbers.
and post those, we cant guess these critical facts.

find any ASE shop, and get it checked.
they dont need to cheat you,there work load is near infinite.
no reasons at all.

no over 30mph, did the transmission up shift.?
is it stuck in 1gear. surely you can count the gears shifted?
if not , get a real mech.
if the transmission file the FSM stall test. then this it.
1: tranny RPM goes too high RPM (engine RPM) this is transmission slip.
2: RPM in drive, 1,2, or R, is too low below 1500rpm. STALLED.
this is weak engine. not trans.

2001vw beetle automatic transmission is not shifting.

Sounds like a shift solenoid . See if you can order them separate from the valve body. I would call a vw dealer and talk with the service department.

I have a 1989 ford f250 diesel 7.3 non turbo. truck was running fine without aany problems. yesterday when i took it out it wont shift out of 1st or 2nd gear, not sure which gear. i can only go about 25...

This is a computer controlled trans. you will need someone to run a diagnostic. Trans will stick in second gear when a trouble code is set.

2006 Mercury Milan goes to 3 rpms and drops dramatically, scan says it's the mass air intake. Could this be the problem?

It sounds possible, first unplug the Mass flow meter and check for corrosion. This would be the part under the Airhorn area on top of the intake manifold. Then try to find an RPM that the engine will run steady at and then use a water spray around the seams of the intake manifold, vacuum lines, and EGR valve. A leak will change the RPM.

The diagnostic system works pretty good, but it can be fooled by physical changes that mimic a defective part, like a vacuum leak.

I see you have a 2006, depending on service date and mileage you still could have warranty. The automakers also classify some engine controls as Pollution equipment with longer warranties. It is good to check for this and any service bulletins for a problem part. Good Luck with your repair.

Grinding noise on Acura RL at 40 MPH

I don't think any body can help you here.
any mechanic have to drive the car to experiece the problem . Impossible to fix it over the phone.
Take it to mechanic shop to prevent futher damage.

sounds like you have a problem with your vehicle speed sensor this sensor is essential for the correct operation of many control units on your vehicle best get a diagnostic test on your vehicle to confirm this

Transmission / RPM

These cars have a lock up torque converter meaning 4 gear going above 35 to 40 MPH, the engine and transmission lock together and turn at the same rate. I know that older GM cars had a plug that needed to be plugged into the transmission for the lock function to work on the torque converter and if you unplugged it the RPM's would run high as you describe. I have never had a 1999 Silhouette and I'm not 100% sure that these cars have that type of plug but it sounds like that type of problem. I agree with you. You know your car and I would take it to a transmission mechanic and describe your problem to them.
