I find it very difficult to open the trunk on my 2010 beetle. The trunk latch doesnt pop the lid very open so you must wedge your finger under to lift it open.

Spray the latch with a silicon spay

  • Yankee49 Oct 28, 2010

I have the same exact problem on my 2010. It's a few months old and was fine until a week ago. Also, that's when the weather got colder. It is intermittent, as it was happening almost every time I used the key FOB and when I brought in to the VW Service, of course it was fine. They said if they can't reproduce the problem they probably can't help. I just wanted a mechanic to look at the mechanism as it is opening but not lifting up high enough for the latch to release. I will try the silicone spray although I'm not optimistic. Given that I've seen this complaint on many forums for VW, I can't believe there isn't a TSB or sevice departments being aware of this rather common complaint.

Any way to put a fire under the VW Service personnel's butts to get them to look at this even though it is not necessarily getting stuck when I bring it back in? I mean this is a frickin' brand new car!

My trunk pops open randomly on a 2011 regal buick.

Check the rear compartment lid unlatch relay in the under hood fuse box . The open switch is an input to the BCM - body control module , when pushed the BCM applies B+ voltage to energize the relay sending B+ voltage to lid latch motor opening the trunk . If not the relay the BCM may be at fault . May have DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored .

I put stuff in my trunk and when I got home the trunk would not open with the keyfob or button inside the door. How can I get into the trunk to get my stuff and how do I fix it?

Try pressing the fob trunk button while pushing down on the trunk lid as sometimes the latch mechanism gets dry and sticks. If you do get it opened spray some silicone spray onto the latch and wipe off excess with a towel. It is possible that something got caught or wedged into the latching unit. As Malissa said try unhooking and reconnecting the battery to see if the BCM resets and lets the key fob work.

2010 Chrysler300 Trunk Light Stays ON When Trunk Is closed What Causes This Problem

In most cases it is the trunk lock /latch assembly. There is a switch in there that informs the body module whether the lid id open or closed. I have had sucess spraying wd40 in the latch assembly and opening and closing the lid several times. If no help, the latch may have to be replaced

2010 vw cc trunk will not open from remote or from inside latch

Ran into the same issue with our 2010CC (not Jetta) as in one of the posts. our problem was both the trunk wouldnt open and the rear fog light wouldnt iluminate. traced wires back to compartment that houses battery. in that space the wiring harness from the trunk lid terimates in multiple conectors. before they do that the wires pop out of the trunk lid support. The support had worn the wires through and 3 of them had been cut through. There are 10 brown wires in gthe bunch of 3 -4 different sizes. Check that area for conection problems.

2010 Town & Country trunk won't shut

When you pull the trunk handle back towards yourself to open the trunk, it may be sticking in that position, so give the handle a tap to pop it back into its original position. Then shut the trunk and see if it has latched.

My 1999 caliver trunk is not closeing no more, why

have a look at the trunk latch mechanism.sometimes they get closed when they should be open(the fingers that lock the trunk lid closed).if its in the closed position just unlock the trunk with the key and use something to pop open the lock(fingers) then the trunk will close again.

My pontiac G6 trunk lid is jambed, the dash indicator say 'Trunk Adjar" but we can niether shut it or get it open. both the key fob and the inside relese button seem to be be working in that you can hear...

there is a little finger in the latch that closes when the trunk is closed chances are that the little finger has closed but the trunk is still open... this can be fixed by looking at the latch on the lid you will see a slot with a metal arm in the middle take a screw driver and place it in the hole in the slot at the top. press the button on the fob to open the trunk while your pulling down on the screw driver the little latch should twist letting the screw driver move through the track and pop out now alowing you to close the trunk and being happy again.

Trunk / rear lid won't open

You can try this I think the latch is just slightly missaligned.Did you put something in the trunk and push down on the trunk?Try to push down hard on the trunk where the latch is a few times while pressing the remote. If this works and it opens look for marks on the latch indicating rubing, file down, spray with WD 40.Good Luck.

Trunk will not latch?? or stay shut

I bought some grease and sprayed all the trunk latch pieces but then I found out the problem. On the bottom part of the latch [not the lid but the attached part] there is a spring that has a rubber pad that has to be compressed when the lid closes to completely latch. I noticed the side of the latch on the trunk lid had scratches from the latch slipping past the rubber pad on the spring. The solution was easy. I took a screw driver and wedged the padded area so it would make direct contact and now it latches just fine.

Can not figure out how to open my daughters 2006 vw beetle trunk with key. We tryed swiveling the vw badge did not work. Maybe you have to just pop it inside or with key button. Does any one know?

the trunk has no key lock. it can only be opened remote or on the door. in an emergency you can access a manual lock by lowering the center of the back seat and reaching in finding the latch on the underside of the lid
