Question about Buick Park Avenue

1 Answer

On my 89 Park Ave the gas filter has been replaced because it needed to but that did not solve the problem. The car runs good when its cold but around 4 or 5 miles the engine is sputtering and cuts off when I come to a stop unless I ride the brake or put it in neutral and sometimes it will cut of at 30 mph if I let up off the gas. It starts up ---no problem. I know that the wire to the coil has some carbon on it but would that cause it to run erratically. The car has 75,000 miles. My mechanic just installed a new crank pulley and sensor because the computer showed that was the problem. The car is still doing the same as before.

Hi, if the car runs fine while driving and cuts off ONLY when you are idling (foot completely off the gas pedal and RPM's at idle speed) then your idle air control valve my need adjusting or need to be replaced, or idle air passage make have been blocked off by excessive carbon build-up. If build-up is the problem, a good removal and cleaning will do the trick or an off the shelf spray cleaner may get the job done as well.

Could also be clogged fuel injection system. Try a fuel treatment with a full tank of gas. If a older model GM front wheel drive it could be the lock-up solenoid on the transmission. or it could be a stopped up catalytic converter on about any make and model. First thing id do is check and change the fuel filter, its usually checked by blowing air through it (in the arrow direction) if no air flows through or it blows through slowly then its more than likely plugged change it and go from there. sometimes after all avenues have been followed and the problem still exists i have seen the sock on the fuel pump be plugged and do the same. it will run great while accelerating but stall at idle due to not enough fuel pressure.

It could be a problem with the car not getting enough fuel, or it may have something to do with one or more of the sensors, such as the Mass Airflow Sensor. Is your check engine light on? If it is then its most likely a faulty or dirty sensor.

A clogged Catalytic Converter will also not cause this problem.

I have a 89 buick park avenue ultra. my

the transmission breaking apart but in a really slow way. There's not a thing that can be done to save it. It's going to someday give out. You can prolong it by not punching on the pedal to test it. just drive it normally and DON"T get the trans oil change. Just leave it alone... I own 89 P/Ave 156,000 original owner. Same thing happened to my car and picked up a used trans at junk yard and my mechanic installed it and runs like a baby at half the price(700.00). If you go to junk yards half of the park ave are because of trans. Good luck

91 buick park ave.

Well, that can be a ton of things. Usually it means: A. its not getting enough air, or any air. B. Its not getting enough gas. It could be a problem with the Mass flow Sensor- which can be cleaned or replaced-, or maybe a bad fuel pump or bad fuel lines or something. Either way the problem sounds like it just can't run because it can't get enough gas.
