Hi. If your getten warm heat but not hot, ITs most likely your thermostat which can cause your car to overheat.

I can help you fix half the problem, at least. Replacing your radiator cap would keep the antifreeze from flowing out of your reserve tank. The spring in the radiator cap is bad, so I doens't keep pressure on the cooling system, therefore letting the antifreeze blow past it to the drain hole just underneather the cap leading to the overflow tank, and when the tank gets full, it expells the excess. I just had that problem last week, and the new cap fixed that part. I am still trying to fix the overheating issue that you are having, too...

I also am having that problem, yet seem to be loosing all the water I dump in directly to radiator, every time I drive. It then takes from overflow tank. I'm trying to locate a leak but can not, for the life of me fine anything. I also don't have heater from turning on my heater, just a bad smell assuming a leak..just can't find it. Oil on dip stick is clean so Im sure it's not a crack head gasket? But I'll try the simple cap replacement first. Thanks for the tip, any suggestions out there if that doesn't work?

hi the temp gauge should sit in the lower quarter of the gauge, it has to be a faulty water temp sensor as anything else would cause it to over heat badly

Sounds like you could be low on coolant, even more so because the air starts to cool down, check coolant level with engine cold, never open a radiator when hot.

2002 kia sportage temp gauge runs hot while driving

Cheak to see that the coolant fan is operating with the A/C turned on. The fan has to work to help the engine stay cool and help the A/C. When you apply heat on the control it acts to reduce the coolant temp. You will have to get the coolant fan operation checked. This can be :fan motor, fan relay, temp sensor and computer. Good luck
