Question about 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier

Cable for control of air flow for defrost and air direction has disconnected or is broken behind dashboard or at air box. How much needs to be dismantled to fix this problem?

Check first for vac leak at source to ac heat system then pull evap codes write back

I have a 2009 Kenworth W900. The ac/heater started only coming out the defrost. Now hardly any air comes out of any vents even though fan running. Cause? Solution?


The mechanism that controls the louvres for directing air flow is fubar. PIA because it is behind the dashboard.

Subaru outback 2005. Air blows through vent and defrost, but can't get it to blow through floor. Hear a clicking noise.


Its a electric motor in the box that has a plastic flap when u turn from cold to hot it has a flap that adjusts accordingly which is the same for where its blowing to where its set first check the flap by pulling the heater box see if the flap is stuck next electric motor and electrical heater box is a simple system I haven't pulled one out a Subaru but i have done a couple its a pretty easy system to diagnose

Air only comes out defrost in all settings


I just fixed mine. The lever that opens and closes a door that directs the air flow to the defroster was broken. To be more specific, the plastic lever the actuator attaches to was broken. The actuator and the vacuum system were operating properly. It is simple to see but hard to get to. Remove the glove box and look up and to the left for a silver vacuum controlled actuator. I was able to fabricate another lever and attach it to what was left of the OEM lever.

When running the heater on my 1998 dakota the air comes out of the defrost ports and not the vents on the dash r out on the floor


most likely you need to go to a dealer and ask them to show you the illustrated parts breakdown of the heater box, or you could get a repair manual. you will see that under your dash and behind the glove box is a heater box. the heater core sits in it, the fan blows through it. there is a temperature control
knob or slider which opens and shuts a door letting cool outside air into the flow, and there is another knob or slide which controls a diverter flap or valve which directs the flow according to your wishes. the diverter is awry in your car. this could be due to about 3 reasons, often a cable has become disconnected at the climate control or heater box end, it is a chrysler product and they made it more complex than necessary by operating it with vacuum instead of a cable, or the diverter has come loose or out of its hinge points. having a picture in your head of what you are dealing with is the place to start before you begin ripping the dash out. it is generally much easier to rule out the dash controls by removing them and making sure there is not something simple at that end.

Air wont switch from defrost to vent


The vacuum tubes behind the panel might have broken or become disconnected. This system operates the door that controls defrost to vent routing of air in the car's ventilation system.

Can't change air flow direction on ac/heater control. Only blows up to windshield.


It will be a cable that will be disconnected. or broken. Youll have to take some of the dash apart to see the cable and follow it to the switch. Dont be affraid to take some things apart and when you cant see, use a mirror to help you see behind the dash. work the control and watch the action. You will fix this dont get frustrated. good luck

Air doesnt come out of the vents


the linkage that runs the blend door isn't working, these are the doors that control hot and cold and air flow to dash floor ect...they are located in the air box behind the dash ................ you may be able to pull the heater controls out of the dash and spot the problem but it's likely that the problem is in the air box itself and removal of the entire dash is required (big job!!!!!!!!!).........if your vehicle uses vacuum to control this (some gms use vaccum and some a cable)you might have a hose disconnected under the hood by the heater fan.........if it's a cable it may be knocked off at the dash controls or at the other end on the heater box..........sometimes removal of the glove box will give you acess to this connection.

1993 Ford Explorer heat/air controls


you will need to remove the climate controls from the dash and check to see if the cable has fallen off.........the other end of the cable is behind the glove box,removing it should give you access to check if it has fallen off there. replaacement cables and clips to hold it at the ends are probably only avail at a ford dealer

No dashboard heat output


The climate control was poorly designed on these cars.

There is only heat on the floor and defrost settings, due to the layout of the ductwork.
