Question about 1992 Toyota Paseo
Are you sure you have the correct marks?....The crankshaft marks wont be a problem, but the cams may be....There's usually a hole through the cam pulley and that should be lined up with a punch mark behind it....That will be on the camshaft cap....But you may be looking in the wrong place. Have a look at the map sensor, which is mounted onto the bulkhead firewall, about half way across the engine bay, near the top....It has an electrical socket with three cables going into it and a vacuum pipe which connects to the surge tank....Thats the part of the intake manifold which is cylindrical in shape....Make sure the pipe and the electrical connector are in place....
If that's all ok, next thing is to replace the fuel filter. There are two places it may be mounted....The most likely is under the hood (Bonnet) on the fire wall....Thats what the bulkhead that separates the cabin and engine compartment is called....Take a look down past the gear box close to the corner....The second place it can be is close to the fuel tank underneath the car....
If that's not the problem, have the fuel pump output pressure checked....For that you'll need a pressure guage, and it may be better to take it to a shop, if you don't have one....The pump is supposed to have an output of around three and a half bar or above when it's in the fuel circuit with the engine running....Make sure the knock sensor hasn't been damaged and the cable is still connected....
Also check the battery voltage to make sure your getting enough spark to th ignition system....
The last part which I believe maybe causing the problem can be the ignition system, and there you should try a new igniter....
let me know how you get on and when you do, let me know what engine and what ignition system you have in your car....If what I've said doesn't work out I'd like to know more about the car so we can put our heads together....Regards Johngee
