Question about 1999 Chrysler 300M

1 Answer

1999 Chrysler 300M, Dies on deceleration and at idle when warm. I can some time see the tach go to 0 rpm, with out the car actually dying I have had may suggestions, from EGR, throttle Body, fuel injectors, fuel pump, cam & crank sensors and more, I really would not prefere to just start replacing parts untill I find a solution. Has any body found a fix for this issue, I have seen many posts with similar conditions, but so far not a single one that says the problem was fixed...

For the price of a can of throttle body, spray cleaner, I'd remove the IAC motor , clean it, and port it came out of and try it and see what happens. It sure sounds like the same old dirty IAC problems that are frequent . Normally that will cure it, and if it does, but problem re-occurs later, replace the IAC motor. (IAC= Idle Air Control.) Regulates idle under load such as AC on, turning, braking etc, to step up idle to eliminate stalling when off the throttle.1999 Chrysler 300M, Dies on deceleration and at - 86cdd45.gif

this 2001 300m with a 3.5 engine is throwing code po171 bank 1 running lean. the first thing to look for is vacuum leaks or loose intake boot..check for dirty mass air flow sensor and last would be to look at the o2 sensors, i scan tool will be needed for this and you will need to add fuel or cause a vac leak to see how the o2 sensors respond to it

99 300m Dies at just under half a tank.

This is clearly a fuel problem so I'm confused as to why you changed the coil. You may have several problems ranging from water or crud in the tank to a bad level sending unit telling you that you have that much fuel or a bad fuel pickup.

99 discovery/ dies while driving

sounds like the belt is loose. if it has a tensioner check and or replace it, if not tighten the belt. or the alternator tests ok but is actually not working at low rpm. or the battery is shorted. electricity is tricky

Dies at all diff times

Hello krh60, What i would suggest is opening your hood, disconnecting your battery and then cleaning the terminals. Typically when there is a bad connection (your terminals have oxidized) you may experience a dying motor. Of course there are many other solutions to this problem but this is what i suggest to start with. -Please post and let us know what you decide to do.

Car dies suddenly while driving all speeds

Hi krh60, I would strongly recommend having the cps (cam positioning sensor) and the css (crank shaft sensor) checked immediately, both can cause your problem and both throw no codes when running, in early stages the vehicle may start again or it may not. Ford also has a cps problem on their 7.3's also see if Chrysler has a recall on these parts you may get lucky hope this helps good luck to you.

Car dies when coming off acceleration or at idle in traffic or at a stop. I can watch the Tach go to 0 RPM, some times it will restart immediately other times it is hard to start, so far I have always been able to re-start it and Drive on. Does anybody have verified fix for this issue, I have seen posts saying can and crank sensor, throttle body, EGR, and many more ideas... Do not really want to just start replacing parts with the hope that I eventually get a fix. Help...
