There is a safety/neutral switch that can cause problems under the clutch pedal. The ignition wire goes to the starter solenoid and that wire can become loose or weak.

turn key it wont start but does it crank.??????? fast..
and lose power, what power is lost 12vdc power or engine runs but lost power?
the power is back what power? name something, specific,
like 12vdc power, starter power, engine power.
the starter wont work, i take that its silent?
or
starter spins but engine dont?

1996 VW Jetta wont start

Check to see if it's getting gas or spray some starter fluid into intake. If it fires, change fuel filter first and try it without starter fluid. If it doesn't start then change fuel pump.

95 Jetta, not starting?

does the car have an alarm system? if so what kind is it. some alarms prevent the car from starting if it sences a problem. it is possible that you hooked up the stereo and it is causing a malfunction in the starting.
