XL7 has a clicking scraping noise on drivers side in reverse only. Have checked brakes and they look ok. When I put on jacks with the hub off and turn by hand I can still hear the clicking grinding

Where is the noise? Front or back? At the brake or differential? Usually grinding and clicking is the rear brake drums. Brake shoes/hardware. Year, make, and model?

Symptoms of a bad cv joint

x10 , lug bolts,
or even cracked rims
or even bad wheel bearings
or even brake rotor bad. warped.
doing a hands on full inspection (man handling parts)
is the only way, guessing on the net is zero solution.
I can list maybe 25 ways to make noise. on car.
why do that.?

Clunking front driver side

The driver side outer cv joint has worn ,you will find if you put all the weight of the car on the drivers side it will clunk when driven in a circle then try it oppisite lock it shouldnt make that much noise.the bearings have worn in the outer cv joint easy job to replace.
hope this helps.

2003 Chevy Silverado is making a clunking noise, on and off sometime over bumps. Also a deep grinding type noise in the same location while driving not constant

Hello Karla,

It sounds like you may have a bearing or CV joint going out. Your vehicle will need to be jacked up and inspected. It may be more than one problem too. Its possible the dragging noise could be something between brake pads and rotor, but the grinding that comes and goes in reference to direction sounds like a bearing or joint. I would take it to a professional right away and ask for an estimate only, and then get other estimates from other shops as well. Good luck to you.

Front end makes noice when turning while engaged in 4 wheel drive

check front axle shafts cv joints one might be bad. also if you turn on a dry surface when 4x4 engaged it will bind and make noise. Jack front of truck up and try to wiggle wheel up,down all around as you may also have a bad wheel hub bearing that is clunking when turning.

I hear a loud clunking noise coming from the rear of the truck every time i take off from a stop

Three things: Either the rear brakes are releasing, causing a clunk, try service and adjust rear brakes. If not, go to the drive shaft, check the u-joints and/or jack up the rear of the truck and rotate your tires by hand to see if there is a clunk in the rear end itself.
