SOURCE: how to change a thermastat 1994 ford escort with a 1.9 engine

1.9L Engine

CAUTION Never open, service or drain the radiator or cooling system when hot; serious burns can occur from the steam and hot coolant. Also, when draining engine coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted to ethylene glycol antifreeze and could drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantities. Always drain coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or is several years old.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove the air intake tube, crankcase breather and PCV hose.
  4. Remove the ignition coil pack and bracket.
  5. Remove the upper radiator hose.
  6. Remove the ignition coil pack bracket.
  7. Unfasten the heater hose inlet tube bracket bolt and remove the heater hose inlet tube from the thermostat housing.
  8. Remove the three thermostat housing attaching bolts, then remove the thermostat housing and gasket.

1994 Ford Escort, auto trans, 83,000 mi, randomly won't shift from 1st to 2nd, randomly loses power at hwy speeds

It could be an internal problem with a pump, or it could be it needs to be serviced really bad. Most 'oil change' places can also do transmission services... I'd try that first, before paying a big repair bill to a shop. good luck.

I have a 1994 Ford Escort wagon and wipers will not shut off. They also started on their own. Any suggestions?

I would believe that the self parking switch in the wiper motor assembly has become defective....Depending on where you are in the world it may be better to replace the unit instead of trying to repair it. Repair to that part of the switch is not very successful....If you let me know which way you'd like to go, I'll be happy to help.... Regards Johngee10

1994 Escort 1.8 16v Sudden loss of wipers, blower, windows & indi

Most probably it is a relay problem. First check from car manual which relay is commanding to your wipers, blower etc... Then you or your service have to replace it.
