Question about 2000 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

I have a 1993 Ford Taurus with 240,000 miles. Check engine light came on that day. When I went to start car again after it was sitting all day it would not start. Acted like it wanted to but seems like it was not getting any fuel. Where do we start checking for the problem?

That engine light is there to warn you that the ECM (the brain of the engine) has detected a big fault that should be immediately taken care of.
You must have the error codes read to have an idea of what is wrong - either call someone with a handheld reader at home or, since the damage is so big that the engine no longer start, have the car towed to a repair shop.

Yes, very easily disconnect a hose that goes to one of the injectors and place it in a bottle then just put the contact (don't crank it up) - the fuel should squirt out vigorously if the pump is good.

No, you read the error code (it's a 4 digit number), interpret what it means, check the faulty part that the error ode indicated, you fix or replace it and finally you clean the memory of the ECM. Only then you try to start the engine. If no other error codes are generated then the car is fixed, if not you start the procedure all over again until it's fixed.

1993 ford taurus

sounds like it could be a coil issue after its been sitting for awhile it starts again correct? when its running the coil will warm up and if there is a small crack in it anywhere it will seperate and loose its contact therefore interupting the spark for the engine and it will die. or it could be a bad fuel pump or even cheeper yet check the fuel filter.

I have a 93 ford taurus. I tried to start up the car but it wouldnt start. The light on the dash wouldnt go off so i disconnected the battery. Another problem that we have was my car wa leaking oil,...

A no start condition would first indicate the need to clean battery terminals of corrosion, usually white powdered in color. If still no start, requires battery teminals on staters end to be tightened. If cranks but no start, could be clogged fuel filter if it has not been changed within the last 25,000 miles. If check light is on, sensor trouble indicated and you waited to long to repair. Oil seals leak from drying out, replacement warranted tranny and oil pan. If you do not tighten the fasteners (screws) to the right torque they will still leak because the seal is either too tight or too loose.

If you dont have the proper spark due to a bad coil pack you will not get all the gas burned properly and your manifold will glow red.I would start with the coil pack.!

I would have the front brakes checked and from what you are telling me you may have a warped rotor I do not know how many miles are on the car some cars have a reset after the oil change has been done to turn off the check engine light but if it keeps coming on take it to autozone and they will put it on a tester for free and then you will know what needs to be done
