Question about 2003 Ford Explorer

1 Answer

My ABS light is on all the time. The other day i felt the brake paddle shaking under my foot? Does that mean my brake is failing and how bad is this? Does ABS light on indicate a brake failure i.e. that means the car will not brake at any minute? I will be taking the car soon to the dealer but just I am concerned and can i just drive it without worrying I will have a big problem on the road.

The ABS light being on means that there is a problem with the ABS, but not the basic braking system. The "shaking" in the pedal you felt is probably a warped rotor. This common on Ford vehicles.
An ABS failure usually is related to the wheel sensors being defective or dirt buildup.

The shaking when the pedal is press is due to warped brakes disk and the ABS sensors need to be service.

The shaking is due to warped rotar and the ABS light is on because when you apply the brake, the one warped is stoping/starting and the ABS is trying to compensate for it and over loads itself and blows the fuse. Or at least that is what was wrong with mine. After I changed rotar and 60A fuse. I had no more trouble..

WHEN I BRAKE BY A STOP STREET WITH MY 325TI BMW, THEN THERE IS SOME VIBRATION ON THE BRAKE PADDLE

Sounds like you may have warped front rotors. They can be felt in the brake pedal when stopping. The warpage of the rotor actually pushes the caliper piston in and out which is felt by your foot. Another vibration you may feel is the ABS system coming on if there are poor road surfaces. That feels quite a bit different than a warped rotor.

1998 Dodge Caravan New brakes. Front Axel removed to get to power steering pump to remove it. Got van back brakes felt strange had to hit them hard car pulled infront of me. ABS light came on. brakes...

Bad brake master cylinder could cause this, It will start leaking internally and not build up pressure. Will happen just do to age, will need to replace it and bleed brake system.

My brake and anti brake lights stay on all the time

CHECK ALTERNATOR OUTPUT IT SHOULD BE 13.5 TO 14.5 VOLTS WITH ENGINE RUNNING.IF VOLTAGE LOWER 12 VOLTS THAT WILL CAUSE BRAKE AND ANTI LOCK BRAKE LIGHTS TO COME ON BECAUSE THAT NOT ENOUGH POWER FOR ABS BRAKES OPERATION.IF ALTERNATOR GOOD.BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS ON ALSO MEANS LOW BRAKE FLUID LEVEL CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL.ALSO. YOU HAVING BRAKE FAILURE.YOU NEED TO HAVE GARAGE OR DEALERSHIP CHECK BRAKES SYSTEM.BEFORE BRAKES COMPLETELY FAIL.

1996 Ford Windstar 3.8L, Brake light is on-brakes work fine

Abs light on means the ABS sytem has a fault.
You can determine what is wrong by counting the flashes (they say) and then put the data in on the web.

IE abs, windstar, failure, 3 flashes.

The brake light on is most likely picking up on uneven brake pressure, or a failing master cylinder/
You may not feel any difference yet, give it a little time, feel for a pedal fade at a light.

Having trouble with the brakes on my '90 Ford ranger. Replaced the master cylinder and still have very little braking power. Any help would be appreciated!

Check the vacuum line going to the brake booster.

This is the big round chamber behind the master cylinder.

Hope this tip helps.

Brake? Problem with 01 Saab 9.3

to begin i dont know what it means to say expensive or not how ever, all the lights at the same time could only mean one thing the problem could be in one of the diodes in your alternator is bad thus turning on all the lights on the dash board,

now regarding your brakes especially on saab;s shake or vibration is caused by uneven surface on the brake rotors (usualy the front) my suggestion is to replace the front rotors and the brake pads at the same time.

Anti lock brakes light

Good Day,

Usually that indicates bad ABS sensor or ABS component in the system. The quick fix is to locate the ABS fuse in your fuse panel, remove this fuse and abs is disabled. Your brake will function normal and it is safe to drive w/o abs until you can have it checked out, keep in mind you will lock you brakes under heavy braking conditions.

hope this helps
