Question about 2002 Buick Century

2 Answers

I have a 2002 Buick Century. When I am idling, the cooling fan does not kick on when it is supposed to. When I turn the A/C or the defrost on, the fan will come on. Is this a sensor problem? Where is the relay located on this vehicle? Thanks!

THE COOLING FAN DOES NOT COME ON UNTIL 220 DEGREES IT SHOULD COME ON WHEN THE A/C IS TURNED ON OR DEFROST ON IF YOU THINK THERE IS A PROBLEM HAVE A SCANNER PUT ON IT AND IT WILL SHOW THE TEMP THAT THE FAN COME ON

Thank you. I looked at all the fuses and none were blown so I will try this. But why let the car get so hot before the fan comes on. I keep turning the het on full.not fun when 3 windows go down and its 100 degrees outside

Actually just watch your gauge at idle. You have a problem if it get 3/4ths of the way to hot without the fan starting. Uh you don't need to turn the heat on full. Just running the a/c is enough. I run the a/c a lot because I only get 1.5 mpg better (28) without a/c.

They should both come on when you turn on the AC. If you're not using AC, the fans run at low speed when temp gets to around 210

Engine cooling fan only works when ac or defrost is on

if engine at long stand still, the engine temperature will rise about 190 degrees the cooling fan suppose to automaticaly turn on when coolant temperature sensor get hot it cause its resistance decrease causing pcm to send power to coolant fan relays and cooling fans, when you turn on AC the cooling fans suppose to turn on to cool down AC CONDENSOR, IF NOT AC WONT WORK COOLING FAN COOLS DOWN REFRIGERANT SO IT CAN RECYCLE THROUGH THE SYSTEM AGAIN.your cooling is suppose to turn on when engine at a sit still if vechicle not moving as coolant temperature rises at a set point the cooling fans will turn on cool down engine.cooling fans dont turn on when you first cold stsrt vechicle unless you have AC SWITCH ON.if cooling fans dont turn on when vechicle at a long stand still or moving along slow traffic.if coolant temperature sensor been replaced and fuses and relays okay have dealership check see if pcm driver circuit working faulty pcm will cause cooling fans not to turn on.

My 02 buick century keeps popping the cooling fan fuse and my fans dont turn on is it my pcm ??

I just replaced a set of cooling fan motors for this problem, and the connectors on the motors were even melted, had to replace connector pigtails as well, th fans also cools the a/c condenser so if the fans quit then your a/c will not be very cool unless your driving and the air flow will aid like a fan would..

Compressor keeps kicking off 1999 Buick Century AC

Your ac system is most likely low on freon, or the cooling fan is not working.
When you turn on the ac the cooling fan should stay on.
If it stays on then you are low on freon.

My heater and defrosters blow hot air and my temperature gauge climbs when sitting still but will go down if I turn on the a/c and when driving. Can you give me an idea on how much this should cost to...

Sounds like you have a cooling fan issue. When you turn on the a/c it will turn the fans on to cool the condensor, in turn cooling the radiator. Do both fans come on when the a/c is on? If not the main cooling fan motor is most likely the problem. If they both work, then you have a relay, fuse, temp sensor problem. Hope this helps, TJ

With the A/C on the coolant fan should run constantly to cool the A/C condenser in front of the radiator. With the A/C off the coolant fan should come on around 210 degrees and stay on until the coolant temperature drops to between 190 and 200 degrees. Hope this helps.

The fan switch is under the alternator. The turn on temp is 238. Have you checked power at the relay? If you ground the wire at the the temp switch does the fan come on?

When weather hot engine light comes on and engine idles high ,starts to overheat on 1992 Buick Century

High idle is computer controlled to try to get fan moving enough air to cool it down (so that part is normal) check that electric fan comes on and check clutch on mechanical fan if you have one. If all OK, radiator may be partially internally plugged or may have leaves stuck between it and a/c condenser.
