Question about Cadillac DeVille
What it means is that there may be A Short or Malfunction in the System and it needs to be Checked if it comes on again for an Unknown Reason. That is a common problem with those systems.
Could be worn, could be cracked wires. Its easy to bypass if you know where the 2 wires are and you have or get about $20 worth of tools and parts from radio shack. Hard part is finding those 2 wires, they are in different places on different years and models. Like others have said the chip in the key is just a resistor. You can use an ohm meter to find out what 'size' it is and then buy one at radio shack (likely under $1) to splice in and your problem is solved plus you can then go get regular $2 keys made instead of the expensive ones. If you are not into doing this sort of thing yourself I would be looking at car stereo / alarm installers.
Keep in mind than likely you have a broken wire somewhere from the tumbler to the vats module, so check out this link bookmark it, its even got a complete VATS bypass, its educational and very easy repair.
