Question about Chevrolet Silverado 1500

1 Answer

The headlights on my 1999 Silverado stay on all the time. It has the auto on headlights. I tried using the dome override button but it does not re program like the newer trucks do. I replaced the switch on the parking brake assembly and no change. I can hear the relay under the dash "click" when I start the truck or release the parking brake. My truck is a 1999 Silverado, 5.3 liter, 4WD, exteded cab.

Thanks for responding. This did not change anything. Someone told me it might be in the switch assembly. I removed and unplugged the switch, started the truck and the headlights still came on. I'm lost now.... any further help would be appreciated.

Hi! As a first course of action please open the hood and remove the positive battery connector. Let it sit for atleast 5mins. to reset the system. Once the system is resetted it can get rid of the problem. After 5mins. reconnect the battery connector. Start the engine and take it for a few runs and observe the difference. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

Are you sure you didnt hit the dome light override button? If you have one it should be a button right by your light switch.

Doom & under dash lights will not turn off

Try this, remove the trim that covers the headlight switch, use a flat tip screwdriver and depress the tangs holding the headlight switch in place, pull the headlight switch toward you along with the wires, unplug the headlight switch from the electrical connection, if the dome light goes out, chances are you have a bad headlight switch. Good luck, Gary

Headlights on automatically

if you bought this truck used it may have been a commercial/fleet vehicle. and around the time of production the insurance industry determined that daytime headlights increased viability and reduced accidents.and they gave fleet insurers a discount . i am not sure if this was just a add on module that can be removed contact your local chevy dealer's parts dept.
