Question about 1995 Nissan Maxima

1 Answer

My 95 nissan maxima won't start. I have been having an issue with it not starting or delaying to start. We changed the battery and then it wouldn't start completely...we heard a click. I waited about an hour or two. It is freezing outside. I just went to try to start it and now it turned over. It didn't start but it turned over. I am wondering if you think this could be an ignition switch from what I have been reading it sounds like it. I am worried it could be the starter or solenoid. I don't know.

When you changed the battery to a new one, did you make sure that the contacts were very shiny and clean before installing?

An ignition switch if worn out may cause the ignition system to not get power. Do all of the indicator lights and horn power up before trying to start?

If it were a starter or solenoid, the car wouldn't turn over at all or very slowly while drawing a lot of current.

I would have it towed to a garage that can perform a starting charging test.

Then, I would address the issue with it not starting when it turns over fine.

Good luck on this repair.

SOURCE: REMOVING MY FRONT SEATS FROM MY 95 NISSAN MAXIMA

There are 4 bolts holding the seat to the floor. 2 in front and 2 in rear. You will need 14mm socket and ratchet or wrench. You will also have to unplug some connectors under the seat, before you take it out of the car.

SOURCE: 95 maxima hard to start

Remove the high tension cable to the distributor from the ignition unit. Conduct a spark test. If there's no spark, try to replace the ignition coil or the igniter.

I suspect you may not have enough fuel pressure.Fuel injection requires very high pressure to start car and by pumping the gas pedal the car is flooding itself and that let's it start.

95 maxima starts ok but when you accelarate it won't go over 2000

This sounds like a transmission issue. Assuming it's an automatic transmission, check for lack of fluid that is causing the slipping. Also, if the fluid level is good but is a dark brown and gives a burned smell, it needs to be changed. Before changing the fluid and filter, bring the car to a transmission shop to ensure you aren't throwing good money after bad by changing the fluid in a bad transmission.

My 95 maxima was just cuttn out on me and would go dead but usually move battery cables a little and it would crank, however we changed cable ends on battery, crank it and dtove doen the road, it went dead...

Battery went dead? If this is the case you probably have a dead short.Should pull starter possibly bad solinoid, My old Maxima had caused me similar issue, if you pull starter it usually can be tested at a local Auto parts store. In a vehicle that fails to start, the common problems are the starter solenoid and the starter motor. The starter assembly can be quickly pulled from a 1995 Nissan Maxima, and then can be further separated to replace one part of the starter assembly. The process does not require any special tools, and can be done by novice mechanics

I have a 95 nissan Maxima In June i got a new alternator put in. About @ months ago the brake light and battery light keeps flashing on and off every so often. What could this be?

Often when you lose an alternator its because the battery is too weak. Then systems start failing everwhere. Have the battery tested, chances are its got a dead cell in and you'll want to change it asap or it will cause damage to alot of relays and sub systems.

95 Nissan Maxima with fuel injection issue.

Could be battery, starter or coolant sensor.

It is hard to understand / get across engine noises with words so difficult to diagnose over the net but try to push start the car and let me know if it starts ok with a push. Also, maybe try a jump start, preferably using a circuit protector if you have one.
Let me know results of the above.
