Hi. Here's the procedure on how to replace the fuel filter.

  • 1

Disconnect the negative battery cable. Slowly loosen the fuel cap to relieve the vapor pressure in the fuel tank. Connect a pressure gauge to the fuel pressure valve while you wrap a shop towel around the fuel pressure valve.

  • 2

Put the gauge's bleed hose into a container for holding the fuel. Bleed the system pressure by opening the gauge valve. There may be fuel that remains in the gauge so drain that into the container as well.

  • 3

Remove the quick-connect fitting at the inlet end of the filter, and then remove the threaded fitting at the outlet end. Be ready to catch any fuel that may leak out during this process. Take the filter out of the mounting bracket.

  • 4

Place the fuel filter into the mounting bracket and tighten the bolt to 15 ft-lbs. Connect the quick-connect fitting to the inlet end of the filter, and then connect the threaded fitting to the outlet end of the filter. With a backup wrench, tighten the nut to 22 ft-lbs.

  • 5

Reconnect the negative battery cable. Restore pressure to the fuel system by turning the ignition on for 2 seconds. Then, turn it off for 10 seconds. Turn it on again and check for leaks. Turn it off and do the same.

Changed fuel filter and relay, ran for 20 seconds and wont run now?

How bad was the fuel filter? I change mine about every 1 1/2 to 2 years. When I recommend a tune up, I include air and fuel filters, with an oil change if the oil is dirty. Thin with fuel filters, no one ever changes them. Clogged fuel filters puts wear and tear on fuel pumps. The pump works harder to get the fuel though. Seen to many times when replacing the fuel filter, the pump died, or shortly after. First thing to do is check fuel pressure. At key on and running. No year make or model. Would need that info also.

    Fuel filter

There is no need to change it frequently. If there is a loss of engine power or if throttle cuts out then may be its the time to change fuel filter. It is recommended by peugeot to change fuel filter (but depends on fuel purity) after every 36000 miles.

    You can clean it yourself
Dipp the whole filter body in carosine oil tank and leave it in there for about 20-30 minutes
Pour some petrol in filter with the help of plastic piped and apply a slight air pressure (use a piece of pipe to blow) in the reverse direction (marked with arrows) of fuel supply to clear residue and heavy oil composite that clogged in filter.
Repeating the cleaning process 2-3 times will clean the filter to reuse it without the need of a new one to buy.
