When shift into 1st or 2nd gear in goes in reverse?

what kind of vehicle is it, i am thinking you have your shift pattern wrong, sometimes reverse is either to the left and down or up, some vehicles the reverse is all theway to right and down, so newer cars the reverse to the left is slightly close to first and second, i dont knowwhat you are driving but the shift pattern on manuals onnewer cars are very close you just need to practice the precise area of reverse and first and second type of car would really help.

Manual Transmission, wont go into reverse unless the car is off

I've never heard of such a thing in my 40 plus years of driving standard shift vehicles! I suggest that you take it to a reputable mechanic after you check online for 'call back' problems with your model, and after you've spoken to the Mitsubishi dealership mechanics.

1993 ford ranger reverse light comes on when shifting to 5th gear

Bad transmission range selector or shift cable is out of adjustment. That's the switch that allows you to start the engine and turns on the reverse light.

I have a 1994 dodge dakota 4cyl 2wd and sometimes my gears wont go into first or reverse have to pump the clutch then goes in gear what could be wrong

it could be a couple of things. Your throw-out bearing, which does the actual shifting when you shift the gears. the other is the clutch is worn not allowing the throwout bearing to fully engage. When you replace one it is best to replace both because the transmission has to be removed to replace either.
check the fluid level in the transmission and check underneath for any leaks as well.

ever spilled a soda or coffee around shift lever
it may be in the shift interlock solenoid
therefore when the goo heats up it finally releases

Back up lights not working

Hi,
The Reverse lights work on a plunger mechanism, mounted at the reverse gear position of the stick-shift. sometimes actually within the gear-box ( transmission itself )
I,d remove the bulb(s) and ensure the earth connections are good. clean and tight.
You could also try testing to see if you have 12 volts, running through the circuit, with a multi-meter or tester. i,d suggest purchasing a vehicle manual. invaluable tool for any vehicle.

regards mike.
