it wouldnt go over 1000 rpm whike driving and stalled when at wont start at there another problem or a senser thats stopping it from starting due to damper pulley being bad

  • Anonymous Oct 18, 2010

You have to first repair whatever is obvious. That being a worn out damper/harmonic pulley
There is no need to discuss this, you most likely will find the pulley has a crank position sensor next to it,I am not familiar with your set up,if so, you can not use it or start it,with a pulley that wobbles.

Some engines have a bolt in the center of the crank pulley that may need tightened.
You also could have a harmonic nalancer coming apart

make sure the pulley bolt is tight then check the pulley for being bent. if these 2 things are good then you may have a bent crankshaft at the pulley end or worn crank bearing causing it to wobble.

Loud rattling sound top of engine near or below the alternator when idling, goes away if accelerator is pressed

Hello: Remove the serpentine belt, see if the waterpump pulley wobbles/makes noise when you spin it. If thats not it then start the engine, belt still off see if noise is there also while engine is running see if vthe crankshaft pulley wobbles. Also check the A/C compressor pulley (engine off, belt off) spin it by hand and check for noise and wobble. If all the previous is ok then it could be the balance shaft front bearing and or the timing chain.

Was the timing belt replaced recently? If your crank pulley/harmonic balancer is wobbling, it is probably loose. Do not run the engine, if this part falls out, it will cause more damage.

I believe your suspition is correct, likely one of the engine accessories driven by the serpentine belt. Look for any pulley that appears to have rust or debris built up behind the pulley near the pulley shaft. Usually if the bearing is going out, the elements will get to it producing some signs of corrosion. Also observe carefully while engine idling for any wobble in one of the pulleys. You can also take the pulleys in both hands and try to force a wobble moving side to side. (best done with belt off) to determine if a component is failing. Thanks, Mike

Using a air impact gun would be quick and simple. Check the pulley, sometimes the rubber seperates from the actual pulley. Crankshft pulleys usually don`t walk off. I think it seperated. Have your service shop take alook..
