No The air temp sensor will not keep it from starting, if its bad or even unplugged the computer will see it as 32 degrees and all it will do is command more fuel (rich) to help start thinking its cold outside. even with this being the case it will still start, might not idle or run great but it will run...

Hi,was wanting to know if anyone knew how to change IAC censor on a 2002 Kia sportage

The IAC is not a "sensor" it is an actuator. It is on the throttle body near the engine air intake flex tube that comes from the air cleaner..

2003 Ford Ecoline 150 codeP1406 keeps coming up,this from what I have been abel to find out is a blockage in the intake side of the tube connected to the sensor with the EGR Valve,

This is either caused by excessive exhaust back pressure blow the pressure tube of the exhaust pipe that goes to the DPFE sensor or the tube is blocked or the DPFE (EGR Valve back pressure sensor) is defective or heat damaged.

you obviously know your vehicle, how about the crank sensor and VSS , when i've come across these type of symptoms before they are a nightmare to find sometimes , does it always die after starting now ? had a chrysler that had some foam sucked up into the air intake , that did what your's seems to be doing , have you tried starting with the air intake off ? might be worth a try , keep me posted if you wish

First inspect the boot from sensor to the intake manifold for cracks, inspect all the vacuum hoses to the intake.
second unplug the connector and inspect the terminal.Sometimes the plastic is burn and the wire pusht out of terminal. insert the wire all the way in or replace the pigtail.
plug scanner and monitor the air flow and air temperature on live data.
inspect the wire harness for damage to engine ground.

Check engine light

No the light is fine its the computer or there is a intake leak somewhere causing the mass air flow sensor to not work correctly, also a cracked hose may be giving a false reading. Get a mechanic to test it with a voltmeter and ohmmeter using a vacuum gauge to make sure it is the mass air flow sensor

Car cutting off

I had the same problem and it turned out to be the wiring harness in the steering column. Found this out after replaceing the computer brain ($700) and various other parts. It seems it had a short and when you turn the steering wheel just right it connects and shuts the car off.

Check engine light on

P0101 : Mass air flow censor, Air intake is blocked or the sensor is nackered.
P0172: System too rich bank 1. There's too much fuel, probably to do with the air fuel mix. If you sort the air flow meter that'll sort the two.

Cheers
