Question about 1991 Dodge Dakota

1 Answer

I have a 91 Dodge Dakota ext. cab. It has 4 v belts on the engine. Is there a certain order that they have to come off and be put back on? I can draw a diagram of the parts that each belt goes to, but if there is an easy way to do this, can someone please let me know? Thanks in advance. Cheryl P.

Hi Cheryl; On regular v belts it's always good to start with the front belt and work your way back, then mark the belts you have in the order you pulled off in. Making diagrams is the best way Not to have problems it is easy to get confused which belt go where. Please Make A Diagram that you can use carefully identifing which pullys for which belt. Also check belts for cracking slight cracking is ok but cracks you can easily see is better to replace while you have them off than break down later and kick yourself for not replacing them then, if it's been a while since they were replaced do it now.

Firing order for and diagram for a 5.9 4wd 2000 dakota

I was surprised to find Dodge still using a distributor on this engine.
The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 and the cylinders on the driver side are 1-3-5-7.

1993 dodge dakota 4*4 codes are in order as

12= Standby memory power lost
27= PCM to injector failure
15 = No VSS reference
55 = Completion of fault code display

With the given codes and the way it is running I would say that you are having either a issue with the PCM ground and or the main connector to the PCM. Intermittent failure in the plug would cause these cascade codes with a misfire.

I would inspect the plug and make sure there is a good verifiable ground from the cab to the frame even to the transmission itself. The cabs of these trucks have notoriously bad grounding. Best to establish a new one rather than chase the old one and assume it is ok. Small gauge wire with terminals will suffice.

You may also be noticing that the volt and temp gauges go up and down slightly with the turn signal when it is activated? Radio may also freak out at louder volume settings if the ground in the cab is compromised.

If you are looking at your engine from the front of the truck, here is the cylinder layout:
6 5
4 3
2 1
The distributor rotates clockwise and the firing order is:
1-6-5-4-3-2

put the cylinder one on TDC
pull the cap off and look at witch one the rotor is on..
then going clock wise here are the firing orders depending on which engine you have...
4 cylinder 1-3-4-2/ 6 cylinder 1-6-5-4-3-2/
8 cylinder 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
