Check you fluid level in the Transmission.
I have had some luck using the Lucas brand of transmission fix it lube on some Ford transmissions. It helped squeeze another couple of years use out of the car.

Good luck

slow engagement after sitting all night usually means what we call morning sickness, it usually means that the soft parts in th transmission, i. e....the clutches, seals, are worn and would need replaced which is an expensive procedure. Just hope that its low on trans fluid....if it is you need a special tool to ck it,or take it to a Jaguar repair shop that has the tool.

No you dont have a electrical problem you have a internal transmission failure the fix for you is a rebuilt or replacement of the transmission

The vehicle will not go in reverse, can it be fixed or must it be replaced

If it will go forward it can be fixed. Unless the reverse band itself is broken. Then it will have to be disassembled to repair. You will need to pressure test the hydraulics to acuratley diagnose this one. Good Luck.

Starter makes grinding noise sometimes and just spins but does not start my 2002 x-type jaguar, did it several times in one day The day before it was fine and was very quiet starting What is the problem ?...

take your starter out and rotate your flywheel that connect to your starter full turn look for any damaged teeth on that flywheel if you notice any your flywheel need replacement if not your starter gear also could be a problem or starter itself is no good .

Reverse no engagement

it is most likely just an electronic issue and not a defective transmission.

1988 Jaguar xj6 No forward in the automatic trans rev works fine

the linkage is just a slight bit off, it parks between gears when you shift into the slots. Disassemble the shifter from the center console, and slowly move just the cable its self between the positions and see if you have forword gears. When you find and sync the gears, then tighten the cable to the shifter so the positions match the notches in the shifter.
