What is good brand/type code scanner for this car?

  • goldmainline Oct 13, 2010

Went and bought a scanner and ran it. The codes i get back are P1775 and P0727
From what I can find the on the forums possible culprits start with the ERG valve all the way up to the ECU or the harness connecting the ECU to the trans. Apparently the P1775 code refers to a lack of communication between the engine and Trans. Any insight would be helpful.

You should also know, about a week ago the car stalled and the check engine light and trans light came on. I changed the air filter and checked one plug (it looked clean). i then cycled the ignition several times and drove the car myself (wifey's car) for 20-30 miles and it seemed to run fine. Lights went out a a day later (more ignition cycling?) and I thought everything was ***** dory, until to day when it just cranks with no indication of catching.

Hi,

This could be either the ignition system or the fuel system at fault here, so you need to check for spark at the spark plugs and check for fuel at the fuel rail.

Let me know if you need more information.

Thanks

Hi! This can be caused by a faulty TPS (throttle position sensor). If the TPS is faulty the car may not start, only cranks. Try to run a scan tool too for specific fault codes. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

Cranks over but will not start

When it cranks but won't start the problem is almost always spark or fuel. try using spray starting fluid into the air intake. If it catches even for a moment the spark is ok. concentrate on why there is no fuel. change fuel filter if it does not catch after several squirts of the starting fluid then there is no spark At this point I'd recommend letting a pro look at it.

Every time I try to crank it up it rolls over but doesn't catch

And what vehicle would that be?

You mean you have a no start !!!

Did you check fuel pressure at the motor with a gauge?

Did you check for spark?

Do you hear the fuel pump run?

Won,t start after sitting for a short time, but will start fine when cold

Does it crank, yet not start? Or does it not even crank?
If it cranks and doesn't start, you could have a leaky fuel injector. Pull the plugs when this happens, and check them for fuel saturation.

If it doesn't even crank, it could be an intermittent starter.

It will crank up and run for about 20 or 30 minutes then it will die and it will not start back up for 30-45 minutes. It has plenty of battery power and sounds like it wants to start but it just...

This sounds like a fuel pump issue. Check the fuel pressure and for spark at the plugs after it dies. If fuel pressure is low then you will need to replace the fuel pump. Feel free to respond after these items are checked. Thanks
