1999 Dodge drangeo trucks been making a loud nocking sound only when it's on drive and holding down on braek and feels like it wants to shut off

its hard to diagnose a sound with out hearing it.but on the idle i would clean the throttle body. remove the hose or air cleanser from the throttle body. buy some throttle cleaner spray from the parts store. .open the throttle full then spray the cleaner on the black gunk. then with a soft tooth brush scrub the blade and barrel. then sprat clean. after reassembly start and let idle for three minuets in park the with your foot on the brake let idle for three more minuets in drive .do not touch the gas peddle.

That sounds like a faulty brake light switch located down on the brake pedal lever under the dash, or a damaged wire at the wire connector to the brake light switch. Here are some images of what the brake light switch looks like to help assist you.

Bleed them again, and don't leave the bleeder open, every time the person lets up on the pedal. close on the way down and open and close next time etc. Your letting air back into the system. Don't let the master run dry.

Wont shift into overdrive

Good chance that your TCC (Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid) has gone bad and will need to be replaced. Go to Auto Zone and have them scan the van for the DTC codes, I think the DTC code will be P0740. I looked this up and it's "Torque Converter Clutch lockup"

To check for Converter Clutch lock up, when you are going down the highway about 55 MPH, tap the brake pedal with your lefty foot just enough to make the brake lights come on but not enough to apply the brakes as you keep the gas peddle at the same position. You should get/feel about a 300 RPM rise in the engine. If you don't, then the clutch didn't lock up.

Good luck and thank you for using fixya.

When push brakes you have to push really hard to make them go in then the truck barely stops. Replaced the MC and bled the brakes now every time push brakes truck acts like its going to die. Brake light...

Sounds like you will have to bleed your brakes again, but thats not the problem og hard brake peddle, need to check your power brake booster, sit right in back of master cylinder, check make sure it has vacum going to it, also to test it with engine off, press on brake peddle three time, then state engine with foot on peddle, peddle should go down a few inches, also with engine of peddle should feel soft for three pumps, if you have none of this , power brake booster is bad.

Spungy brake peddle and goes to the floor gm says nature of the beast stops ok but doesn't feel right

that is one of the wosrt ABS system it dose cause a soft peddle but you can sometimes adjust up the rear brakes to help this problem, also find a dirt road and slam on the brakes just enough to cause the ABS pump to kick on it will also give you a better peddle

2001 olds alero, anti lock light on

I had the same problem when I first got my Alero. The problem turned out to be a bad wheel bearing. Seems odd, but I guess it's a common problem with Aleros. It's held up for two years without any further incident.
