Question about 2006 Chevrolet Aveo

1 Answer

I HAVE A 2006 CHEVY AVEO, LESS THAN 80 MILES AGO IT WAS RUNNING BAD AND LEAKING OIL. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND CODE P0300. THE VALVE COVER GASKET WAS LEAKING OIL INTO THE SPARK PLUG DWELLS. REPLACED THE GASKET, SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES. THE CAR RUNS GREAT. NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS BACK ON WITH A P0340 AND A CATALYST EFFECIANCY CODE. I CHECKED TSBS, AND CHECKED THE SENSER AND FIND NOTHING ON THE P0340 CODE. I CLEARED THE CODES AND ROAD TESTING NOW. ARE THERE ANY KNOWN PROBLEMS FOR THE CAM SENSER, OR WILL ANY OF THE TSBS THAT I FOUND FOR THE CONVERTER FIX BOTH?

When run with a misfire, the cat will get loaded up with fuel, it takes awhile for it to burn out, and a code may set, on some occasions it ruins the converter, try clearing it and running it

The valve cover gasket isn't hard to change. Oil on the plugs indicates a more serious problem. Smoke from the exhaust would be from rings, rich mixture, worn valve guides. It may be that the engine is overfull (that would show on the stick). Oil loss from a leaking gasket would smoke under the hood and leave oil on the engine and the ground.

2006 chevy aveo. the dipstick reads oil is full. but there is oil in the spark plug holes.did the mechanic overfill last oil change. that was 4000kms ago. dipstick still reads full oil

You have oil in the plug holes because the seals that are supposed to keep oil out are leaking-you need to remove the valve cover to replace them.

Hi, I have a 2006 chevy aveo and I was recently told that I needed to replace the valve cover gasket because it's leaking oil. How do I replace a valve cover gasket on a 2006 chevy aveo? Much...

Its easy. I did mine about a month ago. You need to take off all the bolts on the top part of the motor. there are some tubes on the left side of the motor by pushing them out of the way... you take the old one off and replace it with the new one making sure its aligned and the you put it back on.. the bolts need to be hand tightened kinda as tight as you would do your tires.

Oil leak above the oil filter, may be the oil senser. I may drive 50-80 miles without a problem and then my warning light comes on for low oil and I have to add 2-3 quarts of oil.

Oil leak can be attributed to several factors.
1. Gasket failure.
2. Uncontrolled Crank case pressure Failure.

RECOMENDATION:
Tighten both the valve cover and oil pan bolts.
Replace the Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve and vacuum line.,

INFO: PCV
This is a valve causes a negative vacuum on the engine while its running, As to say if it had a leak in a valve cover it should not be leaking while its running, only when the engine it turned off.

Hope this tip guides you in the correct direction to solve this problem.

Oil

Check the oil level, check that there is no leak and that oil is not being consumed inside the engine.
If oil is low it can be because of a bad gasket, a broken oill filter, or engine is getting old and starts burning oil inside the cylinders, you see black smoke from exhaust when this happen.

If you just want to reset the warning you can unplug battery cables for ten minutes. You mey be asked car stereo security code when connecting back.
