Question about 2003 Jaguar X-Type

2 Answers

Noisy engine on X type 2 litre diesel 05 reg. Runs perfectly well, but when idling and at low revs seems to be firing noisily and possibly missing. Could it be the injectors need realigning. If not, what can I do about it?

Thanks for your help. There's no smoke or carbon, so it seems it'll be the injectors.

  • pete_mary282 Oct 18, 2010

Thanks, I'm going to try realigning the injectors.

I'm sorry but I only have information on the gasoline versions of this vehicle on my online resource.

Are you using diesel that is right for the season?

Most diesel engines are louder than gasoline engines as a rule.

injector realigning or recalibrating might work.

Hi! Yes it can just be the injectors need to be realigned. Does it have white smoke or massive carbon on the exhaust? if it does then you will need to have it calibrated. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

Engine idle speed on citreon berlingo 1.9

Warm diesels should idle low. Some of them 800-900 revs.
At cold, they should have a fast idle, some 1100 revs.
look if your engine has a cylindrical device, with a bowden cable to the diesel distibutor pump. This will be your coldstart device, responsible for idle revs.

High rev at cold (winter cold!) idle

Your toyota technician should know what a "cold starting solenoid" is. It is the little thing that works your throttle until the motor warms up and something else takes over. I'd suggest going to another technician.

My engine wont rev when warm

possible engine internal damage from the cold
have a compression test done
try testing the boost pressure from the turbo as it may not be working
excessive smoke and low power indicators
starts and runs cold is not indicated that it is a pump

i would check all the basics like spark plugs and check for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold. With a can of 2+2 carb cleaner while engine is running --if idle goes up or down that is were your leak is--
check egr too, Lee

Smell like burnt rubber in engine compartment on passengers side. 05 plate 2 litre Focus Diesel. Engine runs seemingly happily, no odd noises, no visible warning lights or messages.

I expect that you have an oil leak that is dripping/running on to the exhaust. The burnt oil will smells a bit like rubber. Check for oil leaks that are higher up on the engine. (Valve Cover gasket for example).
