Question about 1994 Buick Park Avenue

1 Answer

We understand that your problem is: bought 94 pa about 1 or 2 days later power locks quit working first thought was low bat in keyless-- but realized all other remote functions worked illumination, alarm, trunk pop, also when attempting to lock heard a clicking (traced it to relay under driver seat) found another relay at Jyard, switched them but no change, also realized the gas lid power open no longer worked. all fuses under dash appear good as well as big fuses under hood and could not find any fuses under dash even related to p/ls...i now noticed pow/loc switch on driver door is lit, but the pass was not i removed pass door panel to quick view but did not notice any obvious probs (broke wire etc) so grabbeb my elec meter checked P/L wire clip to find it recieving power, so i took the drivers side switch off to swap to pass side to see what happened and the drivers side switch did not light when plugged in pass side so i disconnected grabbed meter to find no power to clip anymore checked fuses no blown said F this for now as it started to rain..... On my next trip to car realized illumination when open ing doors and such not working also radio turns off when ignition switched off and cant role windows up with key off also power trunk no longer working,..... Basically lost all constant power abilitiesAAAAARRRRGGGGHHH ready for help please.

Thanks for the idea , but this was not the problem. Me and a friend of mine started tearing the car apart following the wires and found the third and main fuse box, wich is on the passenger side under the glove box. The blown fuses were here and we traced the cause to a short at the trunk close assist. I have all the original paper work and manual tthat came with the car, and i love how there was no mention of this any where ...Oh well they gotta try their best to get you to bring it into the shop..... Thanks anyways!

I would check around the starter for a fusible link that stretches with about 5 lbs. of pull, when blown. They can be identified by seeing a small foam rubber round piece on the apparently color coded wires coming off of the starter. This may explain why the accessories are not working correctly and the regular fuses are not blown.

Good luck on this repair.

I thought the post said that all fuses were ok. Well, I guess I didn't think about the other fuse box. Good detective work to find the short in the trunk that made the third and main fuse box under the glove box on the passenger side.

Hey, that's the way my 1990 Cadillac Deville is... there are fuses under there as well as the passenger side.

I didn't think to tell you about that because I thought my Cadillac was unique in that way compared to other GM products.

I will make a mental note of your repair scenario.

BEEPING BEHINE BOX BOX WHEN KEY IS OFF. iT WILL BEEP UNTIL CAR BATTERY GOES DEAD.

my '94 bird did the same exact thing, but a few days ago the wire to my under hood light started shorting out and smoking so I grabbed it and broke the connection apart. then I noticed that the interior lights were on, while the door was closed and the switch was off I disconnected the battery at times I was not using the car I got tired of connecting and disconnecting the battery all the time so I disconnected the beeper, unplugged all the interior lights that would not go off, and now I use it day for day but I noticed where the door lock lights on the outside were also on at all times but I concluded that the wattage is so low in those lights that they can be on for a time before the battery will drain down to low for starting but now the wipers quit working also.............I thought it was a nice auto but I may have to put that bird to a rest..............

1 turn igntion switch on (ii)second position
2 within 1 to 4 secs press the transmitter lock or unlock button with amied at the keyless receiver in the power master switch
3 repeat steps 1 and 2 3 times
7 confirm you hear the sound of door lock actuators working then press press lock or unlock button again or code won't be stored
8 within 10secs if you have other transmitters press unlock of each one
each time the doors locks and unlocks with operate 9 turn off ignition then there you go try them out

Don't understand buttons on keyless entry remote fob.

If it is a factory remote it is either for the trunk release or the "panic" feature. Are the buttons not labeled?

Keyless remote only works part of the time.

I had the same problem only a few months after I bought the car new in 2003. Dealer fixed it. Then 6 months later same deal. Finally I went to a 3rd party and ordered new different brand remotes and figured out the programming which was quite simple. A serirs of procedures with the door and the key which programmed the devices. 5 years later no problems. Of course before you do anything try replacing the battery in the remote.
