Question about 1995 Ford Taurus
Why don't you take a peek under the dash, around the brake pedal? Maybe
it's just a loose connection. If you don't find anything obvious then
you need to get a copy of the wiring diagram for the car.
If I dont mistake, the license plate lights and tailights are both on the same harness so that may be a bulb due to a surge with your issue.
Was it just your cluster lights only that went out or was it the whole dash, such as radio and HVAC control lights as well? Try using a voltmeter on the tail/brake light plugs when the brake is pressed and see if you get any readings, while the plugs are out check the bulbs just in case. a bad ground or electrical surge can casue these kind of issues, but check these things first and let us know, I will check the factory electrical manual for you on those items to be sure.
