Question about 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera

2 Answers

My friend's AC in her 89 Cutlass is blowing warm. Can I fix this (even if only temporarily) by adding freon? If so what type do I add?

Hello: Check under the hood, if the system has been converted to 134a there should be a sticker saying its been converted. If it still has R-12 the what you will find is the service fitting on the large line (low side) will be larger than the fitting on the small line (high side line) That will for sure tell you the system has R-12. Be sure you add freon to the low side with a/c on and engine running. Check fuses for a/c and heater and blower. With engine running and a/c on check the compressor pulley make sure the whole assembly is turning. If the outer part of the pulley assembly is turning that means the clutch is engaged.

89 is R-12 unless it has been converted to R-134. If the recharge ports are threaded on the outside than it is R-12, if they are smooth it is R-134.

R-12 cannot be purchased over the counter in the U.S.

97 Plymouth Breeze won't blow cold air due to freon leak.

Your AC system is a closed system, so the fact you have to put more Freon in, means there is definitely a leak. I would check it out with a mechanic.

If my a/c is now blowing warm air, could adding 134A refrigerant oil fix it?

It could, but before you add freon, check your fuses and relays. If you add freon, make sure you use a gage and don't over fill it. Too much freon can

My ac does not work properly when I add freon the ac will work well for about 5 minuted then will blow warm air hoping some one could give me an idea what might be wrong, ie what to replace to fix it.

does the compressor keep cycling on and off ? if so then it is low on refrigerant causing the cycling, sometimes you have to bypass the compressor pressure switch to stop it from cycling long enough to get enough refrigerant in the system, but of course you need to check for a leak if you are trying to recharge the unit then add a refrigerant with dye solution in it to locate any leaks, note leaks and then evacuate system amd rapair the leak source and then draw the system down add the proper compressor oil or refreigerant with oil in it. you may want to have a qualified AC repair facility do this , so they can properly evacuate and recover the refrigerant material... thanks , please rate my help...

My ac blow out hot air and i want to put freon in my self and want to know how

Adding freon will not correct the problem. If you need to add freon, you have a leak, and you have moisture in the system, the leak should be located, mositure removed, then freon added. But to answer your question. Open the hood on, the left side you will see a round object called a dryer, you will see two pipes coming from it, one at the top and one at the bottom. The smaller is the high side, the larger is the low side. Obtain a can of freon either R-22 or 134a with an adapter for installing the freon. Turn the engine on, turn the AC to high. Add the freon to the ac using the low side.

Air conditioner blow warm air after freeon

you could have a leak in the ac system which would be why you had to add freon. take it to a repair shop and ask them to check fo rleaks because adding more freon wont fix your issue if there is a leak.

97 Olds Aurora AC blowing warm air a day after recharging system

Several- The system should hold freon for years without leaking. There are pressure switches and they cut off the compressor with an undercharge and an overcharge. You need guages to measure the charge. There are testers the A/C shops have called "sniffers" which can detect a leak. If you have no leak then you need a technician to add or remove freon to get the concentration right. Or you need guages.
