Question about 1992 Nissan 240SX Fastback

240sx my car will crank but will not start... i can hear the fan come on the fuel pump and the starter spins... i do not have the knowledge of the trouble codes for the ecu.... we did the diagnostic thing on the back of the ecu and it does all the blinking but i have no idea what to do next

    hi yesterday i have change my engine. the strarter spin, i have some gas and the spark plug do her job.but the engine dosen t start. im really confused about this please help me.

    i have an ignition problem i tried the spark test on all plugs and even checked the coil that goes to the distributor and its live with 12 volts and still no spark is it the ecu?? cause i dnt want to mess with that thing..

Hi 240 SX Girl-

We'll start with the basics, okay? An engine requires three things in order to start and run:

  1. Compression;
  2. Spark (Ignition delivered at the proper timing); and
  3. Fuel / Air Mixture
We'll assume that your engine has compression and narrow it down to either a fuel or an ignition problem.

The most likely culprit is a fuel delivery problem, usually a bad fuel pump, or a fault in the fuel pump control circuitry. Check the fuel pump fuse, locate the fuel pump relay and swap it with one of the other relays that is of the same type (like a fan relay). If this does not get you anywhere, disconnect the air ducting to the throttle body (where the throttle cable from the accelerator pedal connects) and squirt some starter fluid directly into the throttle body throat while a helper tries to crank the engine... If it tries to start and run, you now know it is definitely a fuel delivery problem, and you can narrow it down from there, but at this point I would say it is a bad fuel pump.

If it STILL does not try to start, you might not be getting ignition to the spark plugs. You can check this by removing one of the plug wires, inserting an insulated screwdriver into the plug connector, and holding the metal shaft of the driver very close to engine metal (ground), while someone turns the engine over. There should be a spark from the screwdriver shaft to the engine if ignition is present. BUT BE CAREFUL!!! THE SPARK PULSE IS VERY HIGH VOLTAGE AND COULD GIVE YOU A GOOD JOLT IF YOU TOUCH THE METAL SHAFT WHILE DOING THIS!!!

If there is no spark present, it could be any number of things in the ignition system causing this, and post a comment stating you need further help and I'll walk you through ignition diagnosis.

Before replacing parts did you test the electrical Circuits for the fuel an ignition systems > You don't even know which system the problem is in . Hooking up a fuel pressure gauge an checking pressure and flow , Pulling a plug wire an seeing if there is spark. And it does crank . a crank no start condition . if the starter didn't spin the engine it would be called a no crank no start problem . Your best bet ,take it to a qualified repair shop . I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am why won't my car start? it just spins but wont crank. I changed the core packs and it's still not cranking

The term " CRANK" is what the Starter is doing to the Engine. I think you mean is 'it Cranks but wont Start'.
Is the engine getting Spark? Is the engine getting fuel? You need to check these two things before randomly swapping out parts.
If it's fuel starvation.. Check the fuel pump relay or possibly a bad Fuel Pump.

Ho It would have nothing to do with the starting. Does it crank over?.. Is there Gas?.. and is there spark?. a 2008 will have fuel injection so the best answer would be a diagnostic.. Try getting an ODP reader and plug it into the connector.. The ODP reads the onboard diagnostic codes. Is your check engine light on?.. do you hear the fuel pump?.. Probably knowing chev.. and my knowledge on them.. I will hedge bets on fuel pump. Answer back with - does it crank...does the engine "kick and try to start?.." or is it just turning over with no life. No life.. I would say fuel pump .

Car wont start

What is your symptoms? No crank its starter related, crank but you don't hear buzzing sound from fuel pump its fuel pump failure, turn engine and have someone listen by fuel door if hard to hear. If it cranks, you hear fuel pump, check your battery. If not battery, check for engine codes.

2000 durango wont start sometimes, turns but wont turn over, had look at two times?

You can hear the started going but engine want crank ???????
The starter is spinning the engine over , but won't start an run ! The starter is cranking the engine ,but the engine doesn't start an run . OK ,enough of that > When it won't start (run ) what's missing ? Ignition spark or no fuel pressure ? Video's on youtube showing how to test for these . Has to be one or the other .

My 2000 528i will not start. But its not a bad starter. What could it be?

You are not providing a lot of clues here, but I presume that the reason that you are confident that it is not the starter is because the engine cranks normally when you turn the key, but fails to start, right?
If the engine cranks, and it sound normal while it is cranking, then you lack: - Spark, or - Fuel
A 2000 will occasionally suffer a failure of one or two coils, but almost never loose spark to all cylinders unless you wash the engine and get water in where it should not be. Did you wash the engine with a high pressure sprayer? If not, my money is on fuel.
When you turn the key to the On position, do you hear the fuel pump spin up for a second and then shut off? If not, then either your fuel pump has failed, or it is not getting electricity due to a failed relay or a burned fuse. Look at the fuse diagram in your fuse box, find the fuel pump fuse, and see if it looks OK.
If you hear the initial spin-up but get no subsequent fuel pump operation, it is possible to have problems with the safety circuit in the ignition computer that controls the fuel pump relay, but this is rare. My bet is on the fuse or the fuel pump. Fuel pumps failures on BMWs are not uncommon. My wife lost a fuel pump on her '04 330 with only 80k miles.
If the fuel pump has failed, I suggest that you not replace it yourself. It is not a difficult job, but it can be a dangerous job. Best to leave it to a pro.

My car wont start

OK, I read it, now lets start at the top.... When you turn the key does the engine turn?
If it turns, is there spark at the plug end of the ignition wires?(when it's turning)
When you first turn the key on, can you hear the fuel pump in the tank running?
I'll stay with this unless it gets complicated enough for you to need a shop.

I have a 91 240sx that is very hard to start when cold and you cant touch throttle or it will die

1) Does is crank / spin properly?. Good battery and connections?
2) Does it have high mileage? Check compression.
3) Fuel injected? Maybe cold start valve not working properly.

My best guess is check fuel delivery. Clean? filters, lines, good fuel pump?
Also ignition could be faulty. Good plugs, wires, cap and rotor?

Car cranks then an hour later won't crank

Battery or starter. Sometimes the battery will have enough power to activate fuel pump and dash lights but not enough to turn starter.
