Question about 1994 Chevrolet Camaro

My 94 camaro is running hot at idle and while driving under 50. how do i know if my fan is working or what the problem may be?

The raditor may be only partly filled or stopped up. once running and warm if you touch the raditor it should be hot about the same all over. if the top part is hot and the bottm is cold then the raditor is stopped up. with the readitor removed and the hoses removed and a good high pressure water hose you might be able to wash it out good enough to get most of it working, don't forget to wash out the fins where the air goes though. a little soap in some sparyed on water and then reinise off good gets the dirt and bug juice off and it'll cool much better If a car comes into my shop and the raditor is more then 5 yeares since it was flushed and it appears to be partly stopped up i recomend it to be replaced. The fan should come on if you turn the aircomnditioner on, and if you let the car sit and run with the hood open it should also come on as the temperture gauge approches the red zone. it should stay on till the gauge is almost down to the middle. it shpuldn't take but a mintue with it just sitting there ideling to cool bach down with the fan running, Is the check engine light on? If it is the codes may indicate a fan relay problem or a overheating problem and you need to follow the rules for fixing those codes. Mixture control problems( codes ) can point out problems with overheating too.

    i have a 1994 chevrolet camaro, in traffic, it runs hot , when idle it gets hot . the rad fan only runs when the car reaches 225 deg. which is when the gauge is almost in the red . engine only gets air over the rad when you are going 50 or more like you have seen for your self. You can buy a rad fan switch , which turns on the secondary fan at 195 deg. not 225 , and shuts off at 185 deg. only thing is you need to make sure you are running a 180 deg thermostat. very easy to change . hypertech carries these parts .

    sure if you change to the lower temperture therostate it'll run cooler and use more fuel as the system tries to warm the engine up. What makes you feel that the temperture gauge is right? Does the car spray antifreeze out? Sure these engines have to run run to burn the fuel. sounds like you need the right therostate that your dealer ( GM ) will sell you. Not one that chame from down at the courner parts store. I see this all the time, Peaple but generic parts to save a few bucks and then they get a running problem that's hard to track down and all that's wrong is cheap parts. The cheaper part won't flow as much as the dealer part at low speeds so the raditor can't cool the water as it's not going though fast enough. The fan is soposed to come on at 215 depends on where your taking your reading of the coolant.. If the engine doesn't idel up as it gets hotter than 215 you may have an idel problem. With it good and hot it should idel at 1100 or so if it's cool it'll idel as low as 800. if it's ideling too low it'll get too hot. You never said how much miles are on this engine but the fins on the water pump do were off if the coolant is'nt serviced every year as the owers manaul warns you to do. Be nice and tell which motor I'm trying to fix. Is this car a Z28? Has it a chip in the computer? Does it have aftermarket exhaust. Was it built in the USA for the american market? I see your refering to things that arn't on the shelf at the stores I go to. What counrty are you in?

    You asked to see when the fan is running. easiest wat is to put a wire on the raditor fan positive wire and connect a test light to this wire to where you can see it. Fan on light on. If the fan doesn't come on and the lights on then you have a fan problem. Cooling system parts that are dirty don't work as good as thier suposed to. ( fanblade, raditor ( where the air goes though) speed of the fan, air conditioner condenser, bra's and other body mods in the way ) sure your gettinf enough air at 50 so the fan should be able to blow that hard no problem it it's not coming on then you need to decide why or is the gauge reading high and your too cool as you drive down the road? 205 is the running temp you need it all the time. 225 is'nt too high 235 is.

    There;s a service bullatin 438107 Thjat states that Vin Numbers lower than R2173167 have cluster gauges that are incorrect calibration. To verify the problem connect a scanner to The vehical and read the coolant temperture senser. ( it's nor normally out of calibration the dash gauge is) It needs to be a scanner not a code reader. 3/4 on the gauge should be 235 degrees F. If it's not the bullitin goes on to say to put a 10 OHM 1/2 watt resistor in the dark green wire of the coolant temperture senser.You can verify that you have the right senser by with the key on and the gauge reading (not all the way cold or hot) unplug the senser and it'll go all the way. If it does you have the right one. Add this resistor to correct the calabration and solder and shrink wrap the connections to make it hold and last. This is a problem with Cameros and firebirds '93-94

Camaro LT1 runs great, but idle speed varies when hot

The fan should come on and should flash 1 then 2 for normal operation. Your IAC valve on the throttle body should be cleaned or replaced. After reinstall , turn key to on position for 1 min. then off for 1 min. To reset.

Car running hot when idle

The most common reason for running hot at idle is the radiator fan is not running or pulling enough air thru the radiator. If you have a fan for the engine and one for the ac, the engine fan may not be working.
The radiator fan should come on when the coolant reaches 220 degrees. The computer sends a signal to the fan relay.

Coolant temp runs hot after about 20 minutes of driving. and when idled. Replaced thermostat looking to replace water pump too?

Your electric fan should come on around 220 degrees or so, if it does not you need to replace the sensor on the left front side of the block. The fan should come on immediately if you have AC and turn it on. If it does not check the relay in the fuse box under the hood, and related fuses. Unplug the electric fan and turn the ac on and check for power. It could be your fan motor quit. Usually if the fan does not come on when the AC is turned on, and it does not come on when car reaches 220 degrees, the motor is most likely the culprit.

The fan is used by both the engine cooling and the A/C systems. Evidently, your cooling system is not turning it on. Is the car overheating at idle? When I review the wiring diagrams for 89 Camaros, they indicate the fan is controlled by the engine control module using inputs from both the temperature sensor and the A/C settings. This leaves me puzzled. Do you have a temperature gage or light? If gage, how hot does it get? If light, does it come on?

98 camaro,radiator fans not working only off and on when I turn on my air conditionor. Replaced temp control senser,relays,thermostat. what next PLEASE HELP!

Although rare, it is possible that the fan motor is bad. I don't know if the connectors are the same or if there is only one connector for the fans. My point is try to switch the connectors and turn the a/c on. One fan runs off the coolant temperature sensor and the other off the a/c hen the compressor is running. It basically senses a load on the engine and engages the fan. The one that works has power to it so you know if it does not run the other fan, the problem is the fan. If you have the V6, it may just not be getting hot enough for the fan to kick on. If you have the 5.7L, I would definitely confirm the fan is good because those engines are designed to run hot and they get up to running temperature very quick. Please rate me on this answer.

Possible problems; water pump, impellers may deteriorate and therefore have low circulation.. Clogged passages, and even the mixture of the coolant.

Is the fan running or do you have an electric fan? If fan isnt running or never comes on no matter what you do it will never run much cooler. If fan is good then you could flush the radiator a couple of times and that will help but if fan isnt working it wont last long

94 cutlass supreme is overheating,all fluids are fine. I did have someone tell me i need 3 motor mounts replaced. could this be an issue of the car overheating?

Over heating can be caused by a faulty thermostat and or weak water pump and dirty radiator and old antifreeze or the radiator fan now working when at idle but should not over heat when driving. Service the cooling system if it has never been serviced before. Replace the thermostat, buy some radiator flush to clean out the radiator and heater core. Just follow the instruction and replace the antifreeze and make sure it's a 50/50 mix water/antifreeze. If you not sure how to mix it 50/50 you can buy them 50/50 premixed. Water boils at 100'C so you need antifreeze mixed with it but antifreeze does not have the same heat transfer as water so you cannot run 100% antifreeze cause it does not transfer heat fast enough and you over heat. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, Be glad to help, once you service the cooling system and your still over heating, then we look at the water pump.

Rough idling

if car is running hot flush your system never by sencors this changes electricial sys settings and can cost you major money since car adjusts {for while } to new settings

if you are not the original owner then the previos owner may have set the idle higher htan normal, take off the throttle body then unscrew the little screw, SOME, if your car runs at a high but rough idle then you may have a vacuum leak.
