yes if it is that high it is hanging up. possible cruise control cable also. visually inspect cables at throttle plate and see if they are routed as should be. try taking them off and see how idles.

Sometimes when I drive my 2002 Olds Alero, when I need to stop, the rpms stay up at 1500-2000. It makes car hard to stop. it will go away if I turn the car off and on again

Accelerator cable may be sticking and not allowing the throttle to fully close when there is no pressure on the gas pedal. Check the cable at the throttle body to make sure the throttle is fully closing. This can also because by a faulty idle air control (IAC) motor.

2002 olds alero was running then would not start back up.New fuel filter and the fuel pump is fine, but it turns over, won't start

Have you reset the fuel pump switch...bled the lines? Try starting fluid for a few times then look at these issues.

2001 Olds Alero -- The service Engine Soon light is on. Car has 22K miles. Any Ideas on the most logical problem? Is there a reset so that I can check if it is just a fluke. Vern Dale

Hi Vern,
Get behind the fuse box on the side (L) door; remove the cover, turn the key on, but don't turn on engine.
Push red button and hold for a couple of seconds, and you'll hear a "beep". When it beeps 3 times, push the button in and it'll reset.
I have a 2001 Olds (Alero), and have done thiis a few times.
Do you have an Owner's Manuel? That's how we fig. out...

Good luck!

Olds alero 2.4 idle fuel pressure

most likely idle air control sensor or low engine coolant I know sounds funny but IAC uses coolant to regulate idle. Idle air control valve or throttle body positioning sensor.
