Question about 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

I just changed my tranmission fluid and I can't find anything that tells me how much fluid should be put back in, the guy at the parts store said 4 quarts but my level is still to low on the stick when it is hot. I'm afraid to add more as everyone tells me not to over fill as these transmissoins are very touchy to overfilling /overheating, can you givee me suggestions?

You need to add as many as it takes for the level to read in between the cold and warm indicators on the dipstick with the vehicle fully warmed up. A little over isn't going to hurt as much as being low could.

How much tranmission fluid does it take to change on a 1969 Chevy ck 1500

Around 4 to 5 quarts. BUT, I wouldn't recommend you changing the fluid. Drop the pan and catch the fluid. Inspect the pan. if there isn't chunks of metal in it, I would only replace the filter and put the old fluid back in. Transmissions that haven't been taken care of have a real nasty habit of dieing when the new fluid is put in. Be prepared for a transmission rebuild or replacement.

Is there a fuse for transmission in a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am???

If you just had trans work done, don't use the car,
take it back & hopefully they will resolve the issue

Parts Store people are not all mechanics or shouldn't even
give out advice.

You should have a warrantee, use it

I changed my Tranmission fluid on my 1984 Chevy c10 and gasket, filter now I'm trying to figure how many Qts of transmission fluid do I put back in.

It depends on which transmission you have in the truck but between 3.5 litres and 4.7 litres. Pick up 4 or 5 litres, add 3 and check the fluid level. Go from there. Before you check the level run the truck through all the gears slowly down to 1 and back to Park. Leave it in each gear a few seconds. Top it up and repeat until it's full. Hope this helps.

How to change engine oil and oil filter

Drain the oil out the bottom of the oil pan there is a plug its just a bolt be careful not to drain the tranmission fluid. after all oil is drained put plug back in. remove oil filter (probably goin to need oil filter wrench). put new oil filter in place of the old one put small amount of oil on the gasket on new oil filter this will help make it easier to remove next time. if you can fill new filter up with oil before installing this will prevent dry starting. fill motor with recomended oil type and amount. you can go to any auto parts store they will set you up with everything you need an tell you the correct amounts. They even sell dvds now that will give you step by step instructions if you need further help.

How to check tranmission fluid in an stick

You have to get under the car. There is a plug on the side of the transmission about halfway up. Take out the plug. Tthe fluid should be up to the level of this hole (you can stick your pinkie finger into the hole to see if the fluid is there). This is also where you fill the tranny. Get a plastic squeeze bottle of the proper fluid (check your owners manual) and put a short hose on the end so you can get it into the hole, or get a small pump that auto parts stores have for this purpose. Keep adding fluid unitl it runs out. Put the plug back in. Its a messy job, put papers down before you start.

Need to put transmission fluid in my crv honda 2000 i would like to know what is the best type of fluid

Hello levingstons4,

When you go to the auto parts store to purchase the fluid, as a representative to look it up on the computer. They can tell you what the manufactures recommendation is, as well as if there is a recommendation for high mileage tranny fluid for vehicles with higher mileage (75,000 or more).

Each vehicle has a 'required' type, and seeing the representative is the best alternative to getting this question answered.

I hope this helps answer your question, and you get your tranny fluid changed successfully. Thank you again for choosing fixya.com.

I assume this is an automatic transmission? (Otherwise, you control the shifting...)

Your transmission gears might be worn. You should take it to a reputable mechanic.
