Question about 1992 Suzuki Sidekick

92 Sidekick (escudo) lack of power. bad!!

i have a 1992 escudo (vitara/sidekick) 5dr auto with a 1600 g16a 16 valve engine. (its a japanese import)
i have just fitted coby exhaust extractors (headers/manifold) and replaced the cat with a peice of 2" straight pipe.
now it has no bottom end power, it picks up from 2500rpm but not like it used to.
i have replaced fuel filter, spark plugs, played with the timing and done a full engine service while i was at it. still the same.
one thing i noticed when fitting the extractors is that the new ones dont push gas into the egr system, instead the hole at the back of the head is now blanked off.
i have done a diagnostic check with the blink codes and i get code 12--no faults.
has anyone else had the same problem with theirs? do i need to do anything to the egr to stop this problem (or remove it all together) or will the egr have no effect like this and i need to look elsewhere??
do i need to have the ecu reprogrammed or anything like that because of the efi or should it re calibrate itself??
it was running fine before. i fitted the extractors as the old exhaust manifold had a crack in it, then dumped the cat because i wanted to get rid of the restriction (its perfectly fine doing that here in New Zealand!!)
any help will be greatly appreciated as i cant think of any thing else??

The #1 problem for huge lacks of power in zuks is the cranks tend to go. Someone didn't lock-tite my crank bolt and my keyway slipped, broke a huge chunk out of the crankshaft.... When I hit the floor it would sputter and barely move, replaced crank and it works great.

Is there a timing belt and performance difference on the 1.6L 16V engine type ? i was told that there's something to do with E/I position? sidekick/vitara 1994 lwb 4 doors if it matters.

no, the E and marks are for 2 engines.
E mark for G16B (16valve MPI engine)
I and E marke are for the twin cam engine, (see link for deeper facts)
if you use the wrong marks, the engine will not run
and compression falls by 1/2 from 180 psi to 90 or less.

the G16A is different 8v head, yours is the 95HP, 16valve head.

covers all ways to do it right and wrong.

Can a 95 Suzuki esteem engine work with 89 Suzuki sidekick engine parts like the Pistons, rod bearing , and pin

no at all.
the 89 sidekick has a G16A engine
the esteem uses a J18 or G16B engine.

the G16A parts match G16A parts.
the B engines, have special pistons, fly cut for valve clearance.
mixing A and B parts will not work.
A = 8valve
B = 16valve
the J18 is 1.8L and is twin cam and totally different engine.

why not find a good short block? and build from there?
in the USA (car is rare )but all G16 blocks can befound
from 1989 to 1998, a 10 year span on trackers and sidekicks.
and esteems.
next time post displacements, so we can know what is there.

Radio dome fuse in Suzuki escudo keeps blowing

wow no year, 1988 to now. !!!

that means that feed is shorted,
the fuse blown prevented the for sure fire, if you bypassed that fuse.
the wires are shorted or the loads connected to it are shorted.
we find this easy by reading the schematic first.
to see what is there. on the feed.

no year, nor engine.size.
so its IMPOSSIBLE to answer, accurately at all.
this is a USA forum and we dont have ESCUDO's here. in USA.

our Vitara/sidekick/trackers are simular.

ill answer for 1995? (our cars simular)
our Vitara has the G16 engine
the dome fuse runs:
  1. the DOME lights,
  2. the PCM/ECU memory.
  3. the radio memory
  4. TCM memory if fitted with and automatic transimission
  5. Cruise control if fitted. (opted)
  6. and more.

to find all shorts we use an ammeter,

finds any short on any feed line. (12vdc power)

I have a suzuki escudo(sidekick) 1993 and have no spark

If its not the igniter, maybe you forgot to time the engine (timing marks will align at #4 firing poition, not at #1) when you remove the cam shaft. If the engine is not properly timed during assembly, it will not surely fire.

1992 sidekick jx 1.6 liter eng sohc idels low at times lacks power when pushing on gas pedal and stalls when stopping

Try adjusting the idle speed to specification. Try also to check for leaks in your intake manifold. Check also the valve clearance. If all checks are alright, have somebody look into your emission system components.
