Manifold is good, cat is bad. Expect about 80K out of a cat before it expires and needs to be replaced. Nothing can go wrong with the exhaust manifold

Driving with check engine light can it cause a problem after removing cartalic converter?

The "Check Engine Light" is just a light. An indication of something else being wrong. It's that thing that's wrong that can cause you a problem, or not... It depends what turned it on. They are mostly for emissions, i.e. pollution controls for the engine. LOL! Like pulling off your catalytic converter. So, the light won't hurt your engine, but what made the light come on in the 1st place could, depending on what that is/was. P.S. You can't get inspected without the CAT on there.

Check engine light on the check engine light code isP0420

420 is catalyst below efficiency. On rare occasions it can be the post O2 sensor/s. Sorry to say, it is the catalytic converters. They are not cheap on your car.

You have to disconnect both battery cables for about ten minutes. But, if there is some problem it will come back. Take the car to your local auto parts store and have them read the code see if something else is wrong. Maybe a vacuum hose is loose now due to all the work done.

Flashing check engine light rough acceleration

flashing check engine light means you are pumping raw fuel into your catalytic converter. DO NOT drive the car like this for long or you will burn out your $500 catalytic converter. Go to Autozone and have them run a scan of your computer and see what it says is wrong. That will get you started. Likely a plug misfire in one or 2 cylinders. Could be bad coils, bad plugs, etc. Sounds lecetrical.

report codes back here.

My check engine light came on with P0422 and P0455 codes. Any suggestions as to the cause.

P0422 - Catalyst below threshold.

Catalytic converter is clogged or out of medium.

Replace it.

Fault Code Definition
Code P0422 indicates that the Bank 1 Main Catalytic Converter's emissions efficiency has fallen below the minimum allowable limit. This threshold is tracked by a Catalyst Monitoring Oxygen Sensor located on or near the outlet of the Catalytic Converter.

* Check Engine Light will illuminate
* In many cases, no abnormal symptoms may be noticed

Common Problems That Trigger the P0422 Code

* Defective Catalytic Converter
* Engine misfires have damaged the Catalytic Converter
* Internal engine damage resulting in high oil consumption and/or a leaking Head gasket has damaged the Catalytic Converter

Common Misdiagnoses

* Oxygen Sensors are replaced when the real problem is a damaged Catalyst
* Catalyst is replaced when the real problem is internal engine damage, which is producing elevated emissions levels
* Catalyst is replaced when a misfiring engine is the real problem

Catalytic converter check engine light 2001 s60 volvo

usually if you start to hear a rumble, and by rumble i mean it sounds like a bunch of pieces of metal are clanking around in your exhaust then the catalytic converter needs to be repaired. It could also be the oxygen sensor which is located on top of the converter. Volvo did an interesting job of having them sit on top of each other.

Have a 2003 Chevy Impala. Check engine light remains on. Scan showed O2 sensor. Could it be a vaccum leak?

Bank 1 is the rear O2 sensor, but experience says to change both. The front one is right behind the engine in the middle of the engine compartment. The rear O2 sensor is on the top of the exhaust pipe, just behind the catalytic converter. But the same code that shows it is the O2 sensor (which is P0420), is the same code for the catalytic converter, or a vacuum leak. Make sure if you do change the catalytic converter, ensure that the new one is OBD-2 compliant. And the vacuum leak could possibly come from the manifold gasket. Let me know what the problem was!
