Remove the shift linkage at top of trans. 10 mm pinch bolt. place trans in low gear before removing linkage. this will help later. unplug neutral switch connector. remove bottom transmission pan and and drain fluid. remove all the 10 mm bolts on the valve body. careful when removing vb because 2 sets of springs will fall out. it is important that they go back in the same holes they came from.there are two pistons under the springs. they go in the holes first with the recess towards vb. remove blue seal from vb shaft. its only a dust seal . remove # 25 torqx bolt from sensor and slide off shaft.reverse procedure. if you have doubt about the location of springs look at witness marks on vb. i recomend using factory fluid and have the codes cleared and a quick learn procedure preformed with a scan tool.

Here are the instructions from autozone.com:
Neutral Safety Switch

  • Put the selector in the park position.
  • Loosen the screws on the neutral safety switch.
  • Remove the switch.
  • Reverse the procedures to complete the installation
The part looks like it screws into the transmission with a right handed thread:

If your having trouble re: which one is it, it's at lower part of transmission, on the corner of the housing. Transmission range switch is to left of it, and output speed sensor is just above it. Right end of transmission, looking from in front of vehicle.

Where is neutral switch on a 92 dodge caravan

Safety Switch Most neutral safety switches are combinations of a neutral safety switch and a backup lamp switch. Others have separate units for these two distinct functions. When the reverse light switch is not part of the neutral safety switch, it seldom needs adjustment, as it is directly activated by the transmission or the gear selector linkage.
f_ttat_t3.20.jpg Typical location of a neutral safety switch on a transaxle. Reprinted with permission of Ford Motor Company. A neutral safety switch allows current to pass from the starter switch to the starter when the lever is placed in the P or N position. Some neutral safety switches are nonadjustable. If these prevent starting in the P or N position and the gear selector linkage is correctly adjusted, they should be replaced.
To adjust a typical neutral safety switch:
  • Place the shift lever in neutral.
  • Loosen the attaching bolts for the switch.
  • Using the angling pin, move the switch until the pin falls into the hole in its rotor.
  • Tighten the attaching bolts.
  • Recheck the switch for continuity. If no voltage is present, replace the switch.
  • The switch sometimes controls the operation of the back-up lights also. With the engine off and the key on, put the selector in reverse position. Check the back-up lights to see that they are on. Then, check in the drive position to see that they are out.

2004 dodge grand caravan, will not roll over at all, shift indicator light says it is in reverse, will not register park or neutral.

The mode switch(neutral safety) in the transmission is bad,This will require valve body removal and draining of the transmission. Will walk you through it if you want to try.

How to change neutral safety switch on a 1996 dodge caravan transmission

if it is a 3 speed it is easy ( rarely bad) 3 prong plug below the cooler lines coming from radiator, if it is an overdrive could be similar with two plugs , the one pointing towards front of van is neutral switch. some late 1996 vans with od have an internal switch like the later models and will require valve body removal . if this is the case seek a professional.

Transmission will not go into gear causing car not

Are you saying that the shifter itself is not working correctly? Try putting the trans in neutral and see if the engine will start. If so, you may have a bad neutral safety switch.

If this does not help, or the shifter itself is not working smoothly, you possibly have a linkage issue.

I've got a 2000 dodge caravan with a 3.0L there are 2 sensors on the front side of the transmission at least i think they are sensors but anyways I've got fluid leaking around them both what are those...

Hi..
In front of the transmission the vehicle have:
2 sensors. 1- Input shaft speed sensor, 1- Output shaft speed sensor.
and in the front center You will see the Selenoid Pack.
If any of the sensor is leaking I recomend to replace with a new one.
They are not espensive. Around $ 25 each one.
The selenoid pack can leak too.
If is the case You can replace too. Is about $125.
All of this parts are Easy to replace.
I hope this help on your question.
Thank you for use fixya.
