This is an automatic gear selector in 95 aero so it has a speed button on teh toop of the selector lever. how do you disassemble it?
the front half of teh selector seems to be grey plastic and the rear smooth half you put your hand on is carbon fibre it looks like they split apart but dont seem to be coming apart??? Im trying to replace the accordion slider on in its base.
    thanks

Hi, i think your going on about the part you put your hand on when you change gear, to get this off so you can put the new part on you just unscrew the part you put your hand on to change gear it might be a bit hard but it will unscrew or just pull off usually they unscrew so try doing that first once this is off you will be able to slide the old gator off and slide the new one back on then all you need to do is screw the selector grip back on,

try unscrewing it first it might be quite stiff but it should unscrew and come off allowing you to slide the old gator off and to slide the new one on

let me know if you need further assistance ok

Why won't '95 del sol shift into 5th gear?

check the selector lever ball pivot in the turret attached to the top of the box. I would say that it is not the clutch or you either would not be moving anywhere or would not be able to get any gears.
That leaves the box and if there are no bad sounds from the box in the other gears then I would suspect the selector mechanism in the top of the box. If there was a problem with the selection in the box for 5 gear then once you got it in then you would not be able to get any other gears or the box would be locked up solid .. Check the fork on the selector rail at the top of the box as there is a grub screw that locks the fork to the rail and this should be retained by a piece of lock wire . It that is missing or the grub screw is loose then the rail will move but the fork will not move the gear.

My 95 grand marquis stays neutral after I shift it in gear it happened after I removed the transmission to replace the engine

It is possible that the clamp holding the selector cable was not tensioned correctly and so the outer cable is moving and not moving the box selector.

Renault trafic stuck in second gear

There is one of 2 problems that will give this indication. The first is the gear lever end in the shift rail has moved out of the slot and is behind the slot and not moving it . This can be checked by removing the lever mount from the top of the box and physically moving the shift rail back into the neutral position then replacing the gear lever back into the selector gate and moving the rail again.. The second possible fault is that the selector fork has come loose on the rail and is not moving the gear (just sliding on the rail) If that is the case the box will have to come out unless you can see the selector fork and the lock screws from the top of the box when the lever mount is removed.. If you can move the selector rod forward and tightening up the lock screw then pulling it back to neutral. Repeat until the fork is back in neutral position and lock it up. Most lock screws have a hole and there is wire tied around the shaft to prevent the screw coming loose. If the box has been reconditioned at some time then it is possible that the person doing the job neglected the wire bit.

Gear stick wobbley and selection not great in my vw golf 95

the gear selector has worn out. cannot remember if it is plastic or metal on a 95. you need to take the rubber cover off the gear stick and you will see the plate in there thats what will need replacing.

I'm having a problem with the gear shift button sticking on my 95 olds aurora. Any ideas of what is causing this and how to fix it?

The shift selector linkage can get sticky once in a while. Put your parking brake on and with the car off put it into 1st or 2nd gear then pull the handle off of the shifter. Remove anything in your cup holder and then you can snap off the shift console cover and get to the shift linkage beneath it. Spray lithium or silicone grease into all of the adjoining linkage rods and work it in and out. Then do the same at the top of the shift selector lever that you pulled the handle off of and push down on the top of the little plastic knob protruding from the top of it...that is how you change gears. It may just be sticky only in THAT spot but it doesn't hurt to get everything while you have it apart. Good luck let me know!

Volkswagen passat 95 wont start in park position

It sounds like the starter safety switch is bad. It prevents the car from starting in other gears beside neutral. Try placing the gear selector in neutral and see if it starts. If it does not, then the switch needs replacing.

03 passat gaitor replacement

Hi, The knob does twist off and they can be on very tight the best way of doing this without breking the gear stick is to get mole grips or a good wrench and hold this tight onto the gearstick so as when you try turning the know you can then hold the gearstick steady.
You might need someone else to hold the mole grips or similar tool holding the gear stick so that you can undo the knob on top.

It does undo but can be tight best you get something holding the gear stick still so as not to damage the plastic cups on the bottom of the gear stick joining the linkage to the gear box as these would involve more work.
Try and get some one to hold gear stick secure whilst you undo the knob.
Hope this is some help tp you let me know if you need further assistance

The gear shifter has a switch inside of it. The shifter has to be replaced.

My 95 nissan maxima shifts hard from first to second then shifts good the rest of the gears

Look into issues with the throttle position sensor, i had the same problem with a 95 se. The sensor is directly responsible for shift intervals as it gives the ecm throttle position which doesnt go hand and hand with rpm. Sometimes the sensor needs adjustment, however this is not recommended if you dont have a scan tool to reset your ecm. check this page out
