Question about 2007 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer EL

2 Answers

I have a 2003 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 5.4L. While I am driving the car suddenly dies. I have to pull over and re-start it with no problems. I took it to a shop and they said it might need a tune up which they did but when I got home it died again. There is no Check Engine light or anything. Nothing comes up on the computer when we plug it in. Any ides or suggestions?

Are you getting any jerks/shutter while driving??If so, try replacing all 8 coils. They're pricey ($28-65 each), I have an 03 Expedition FX4 w/5.4L and it used to ****/shutter around 50-65mph and then just die. Restarts and its fine, then dies randomly again!! Replaced all spark plugs, all 8 coils runs great!!

I took it to a shop and they did the tune up and replaced the spark plugs but not sure about the coil. But when I took it home it died out again.

Ok, replacing the spark plugs will not solve this, the coil is what powers the plugs!!So if they fail, there is no spark and no fuel. How many miles are on your vehicle?? have you ever replaced any ignition coils?? Fords coils usually fail after 65K miles, replace all 8 to alleviate future issues!! Ford programmed the computer to shut off fuel injectors when a misfire or coil failure is detected. The problem with the coils are usually random, and usually cause the engine to die when the computer shuts off fuel. When restarted its normal because the computer resets when the engine shuts off and is restarted. notice if there is any shaking/shutter while driving and your foot is on the gas or when going uphill!!Most mechanics will misdiagnose the problem by pinpointing to a fuel issue. It's hard to diagnose an issue thats random!! if you need more assistance, just post more questions!!hopefully this helpd!!

Kinda sounds like a fuel problem to me, could be fuel injection or tps or a compression problem. check your fuel pump fuse or just turn on acc and listen.

I took it the shop and they told me could be a tune up issue. They did the tune up and the car still dies out on me at random times.

its not a recall but ford put out a service bulliten to the dealers, Its called the alternator wireing harness. If you follow the 1 of the two red wires that comes out of your battery one has a long black clip on it that says "fuseable link" just past this clip two smaller wires branch off. a short one that runs towards the front of the truck and a longer one that runs back towards the bottom of the battery, This longer one is resting on a aluminum AC pipe. Where the wire rests on this pipe, flip the wire over and you will see it is worn down to the bare copper threads, Tape it up and tape where it rests on the pipe or go to ford and order a new one, its a 10 min job you can do yourself. The part is under $40bucks

It's on the side of the transmission under the drivers door. The shift cable runs to the control arm it is under.

2003 Eddie Bauer Ford Expedition 5.4l just made loud pop sound under hood and is now running very badly, Do you think the engine blew??

a spark plug may have stripped out and popped out of the cylinder head. Ford dealers are making lots of money fixing this common problem.

I have a 2003 Eddie Bauer edition of the Explorer. It ran fine until the battery dies from the back hatch being left open. We replaced the battery and it ran fine for a while again then the battery died....

Sounds like the alternator is shot. The alternator charges the battery when you re driving and also gives power to the engine and accessories. If this dies the car will run on battery power until it dies.
