What makes water come out the overflow like it is hot but it is not hot couse you can touch the engin by hand?

these cars have a water pump in the front center of the engine and when it leaks cant see it couse coolant or water runs to the back of the engine between the heads thats one but did you change the thermostat and or radiator cap? try with that first but is a good chance that you have a water pump problem.

My 03 FES is overheating & my check gage light is coming on. i have no leaks under my truck. what is causing it to over heat?


Have you already confirmed that the coolant overflow tank has at least the minimum coolant in it?
Does the water level in the coolant overflow get higher when the engine is heated up than when it was first started?
At what speed does this happen? Idling only, or also when driving 35+ miles an hour.
A quick test - when the engine is warmed up, touch the radiator. If it is still cool, the problem is likely the thermostat - it probably isn't opening when the engine gets hot.

My 1986 mercedes 300e runs hot i replaced the thermastat


Hi,first of all worm the car up to running tempriture,put your hand on the water pipe that is coming from the fermastate is it hot if so try the one at the bottom of the radiater to see if that is hot if that is hot then the radiater is fine,nexst turn engine off,then undo the oil cap to see if your oil has a musterd colour for oil if oil is ok,then you will have to do a compresion test to see if there is one of your cylinders has low compresion.
some times you can have a broken head gasket which can couse uneven running due to water going into the cylinder.
I hope its not bad and a easy fix this is just to give you food for thought,best of luck.

To start, the first thing I would check is the fluid level in your cooling system. Do not remove the radiator cap if the engine is hot! The water will shoot out like a geyser and you could get burned or scalded by steaming hot water. Best to check it when the engine is cool.
If you need to add fluid it should minimally be a mixture of 50% water and 50% antifreeze. This way the fluid won't freeze in the winter or overheat in the summer.

Check the hose that runs from the radiator cap to the overflow container. Make sure it doesn't have any holes in it and it is not plugged up. Make sure the overflow tank has fluid in it to the level indicated on the tank.

These are basic, simple things to check. If these don't remedy the problem other possibilities are a bad thermostat, water pump, radiator cap, or a plugged heater core.

I replaced my radiator on my 2004 with a 2.2 and it seems like the thermostat is not opening. It can not get the air out. It seem to just to over heat and push the coolant out. Randy

1996 buick roadmaster. temp gauge goes almost all the way up to hot after driving about 10 miles. i'm thinking thermostat?


I assume you have a 3.8L V6. Probably thermostat, but first take a look in the radiator to make sure it is full. Not just the plastic overflow tank, take the radiator cap off and look. Make sure the engine is cold though. The radiator should be full to the top. The way the system works is that as you drive your car, the water heats up and expands and the check valve in the radiator cap will let the overflow go into the plastic tank when the pressure get over a set amount usually 14-17 lbs. When you shut off your engine, the water will be slowly sucked back into the radiator as the engine cools. if the radiator cap is bad, it may not let the water get sucked back into the radiator and the engine will run hot, you will get air and steam bubbles in the engine, the thermostat will work as long as it has water running by it but if a slug of steam goes by it, it will close. "Burping" that engine is a pain but just keep the overflow tank full and check it every time you *start* the car. The air will work itself out.

We have replaced the overflow resevoir 3 times in 3 mouths, we just replaced it this week, and now tthe engine is overheating at stop signs, and is runnig in the red range, what is going on, and how can we...


Are you using your overflow cap with the different tanks? If you are this could be the problem. If you are using different caps then you may have a thermostat no opening up, or the fan is not coming on. Also does the car actually overheat where water is running out or do you assume it's hot because of the temp hand? If it's not actually running hot, your temperature sending unit isn't working as it should and giving a false temperature reading making you think the car is overheating. Good luck

There's definitely a leak in your coolant system. It could be your reservoir, hoses, rad, waterpump.... you could use a black light and try to trace where the leak is....
