A flashing check engine light is usually caused by a misfire. I'm guessing that the engine is running a little rough? Some things you can check are the spark plugs and wires. You can check the wires by spraying them down with soapy water and seeing if they leak.

If the engine is misfiring you can pull each spark plug wire or coil off of the spark plug one at a time with the engine running to see if the engine runs worse or stays the same. Be careful cause you can get zapped by 40,000 + volts and it can tickle a bit. Once you find the cylinder that doesn't change how the engine runs you can focus on that wire and spark plug. Look for carbon tracking on the plug itself. It will look like a dark black line running down the plug and the porcelain will be slightly erodded under it. If you see this you will need to change the plug and wire.

Over drive light started flashing the other day. Took it to my mechanic he checked it out and told me there are metal flakes in the transmission fluid and that my transmission is failing. Is it possible...

Yes. the flashing light means you have a DTC fault code present. Youe need to have a dealer scan for the code and it will tell you what the issue is. Report back.
I would have the transmission fluid serviced, filter & flush. About $125 & about 1/2 hour to scan for the DTC code.

My mechanic just installe a rebuilt transmission into a 1999 honda accord 4cly. but he forgot to put the o-ring on the torque converter It runs good now but the check engine light is on Will this cause...

you need to have the code pulled and see if it references a transmission code,if so then you need to have the mechanic fix the problem as he missed something and it can affect the transmission being damaged.after all you paid to have a job done correctly.if the code is not transmission related you should have it fixed as it can cause a problem else where.

D4 blinking, spedometer not working, check engine light on

Hi, a few questions 1st. Did your mechanic check for engine codes? Is your Honda a v-6 or 4 cylinder?
The flashing D4 light indicates a possible transmission malfunction. You should avoid rapid acceleration until the cause of the light blinking is determined.
If you have the V-6, there is a diagnostic port to connect a scan tool to read any stored engine codes that have turned on the check engine light. This port is located behind the ashtray in the center console (most cars did not have this til 96).
If you have the 4 cyl engine, there is a service connector located under the dash on the pass. side. Inside the connector is what looks like a 2 wire plug should be attached. Take a paper clip, unbend it, and insert the 2 ends of the clip into the connector to 'jump' it. Turn the ignition switch to the on position (don't start the vehicle), and the check engine light will flash. Count the flashes, short flashes are for code #'s 1 to 9 (single digit code), a 2 digit code will be a long flash for the 1st digit, followed by a short flash for the 2nd digit. If there is more than one code, they will be separated by a pause. They will repeat so you can count them and write them down. Let me know what the code #'s are so I can help further. Curt

Check engine lite is on:1997 volvo 960 p0705 transmission code

Just because your Check Engine light came on doesn't mean there's something wrong at all. Various Mechanical functions are timed by the Manufacture to signify Servicing required.

Sometimes they're set at 50K miles or more, when the light starts going on, all you have to do is take it to an Authorized Service Shop and they Reset the timer. Most places won't even charge you for doing it unless they find something wrong.

I have a 1990 Acura Legend. The transmission seems like its slipping. The car will drive for about 5 minutes and then when i step on the gas the car wont drive anymore. I have to pull the car over and...

I am very excited because I have the same problem and thought it was transmission but went to my mechanic today and he found that some computers were giving codes on my car. One computer module is under Right Passenger seat, turn key on but do not start car and read how many times that light flashes, then ask mechanice to tell you what the code means. In my case what is causing the tranny to slip is the need for a new speed sensor control module. So, you may just need one of those too instead of a new tranny. !!!! Since my Legend was flashing a code 15, my mechanic pulled the fuse that you are supposed to pull when this 15 code comes up and hold it out of fuel box for 10 seconds and then put it back in. This reset the computer and then it showed no code, (no flashing light.) He told me to drive it for awhile and then check again to see if a code was flashing. If nothing flashes then you are OK. If it does flash, count number of times it flashes and tell the mechanic. If the light flashes, it means it is a "code". If it flashes 15 times it is a speed control sensor messing up the transmission capability and just needs the speed control sensor replaced!!
He also checked a computer under the rug of the passenger side dashboard under the glove box. It was flashing a 2, (2X). He pulled the fuse that corresponds to that and held it out for 10 seconds to reset it, and now it does not flash, ie shows no code, so that is fine. But check those 2 computers on your Acura to see if it is giving you flashing light in either of them, and if so, count how many times it flashes, and then you will know if it is really the transmission.

My car runs a HECK of a lot better now that he reset the codes. I think something got "off" when my alternator was replaced and they had to be reset.

I am thrilled I won't have to replace transmission!!
