Question about 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

When I step on the brakes of my Jeep there is a grinding noice coming from the front of the Jeep. But it does not seem to be coming from the wheels but instead the center console gear shifting box. What do you think is the problem?

Sometimes the noise can travel. Check the rotors and pads first.

Why do I hear grinding noises while driving?

Hit in the rear axle may have damaged bearings or brake parts. Jack up the side you hear noise from, put on stand, then have helper rotate wheel while you look underneath and listen to see where noise is coming from. Use length of old fuel or heater hose, one end in ear, to locate exactly where noise comes from.

ok, think about mass that moves under the forces of braking, things like engines and gearboxes, have you checked all those mounts for integrity, have a look to see if anything has been rubbing, new shiney spots appearing that weren't there before.

Sounds like you need brakes or there is a rock stuck in between the caliper and backing plate.

Seel Immediate repairs before you loose your brakes alltogether.

Grinding noice in front end of 2005 f-150 with no acceloration

I would first look for a broken wheel bearing by grabbing the front wheel at the top and try to shake it side to side on wheel. You should not feel any noticeable movement.
Check your front wheel brake caliper and pads for being locked against the rotors. Both of these items would cause the condition you have. Good luck.

I'm trying to buy a 2000 jeep Cherokee. I noticed it has a squeky noice in the front brakes. It will be a expensive to fix it?

Before buying, see if seller will allow you to have an independent inspection. Have a specialty shop look at it for you before you buy. Brakes can get pricey especially on 4 wheel drives.
