Question about 1998 Chevrolet C1500

I cleaned my air intake with an air intake cleaner. I put everything back together except the tube coming from my mass air flow unit to my right side valve cover and put about 100 miles on it. It now is idled up very high. My truck is a 98 chevy z71 with a 5.7 Did i harm my idle air control?

When you put the tube back on does it still idle high? it seems like you have a vacuum leak somewhere

Hard to believe you have a bad MAF in a 2007 caddy. How many miles on car? Have you tried cleaning the unit?

Where mapp sensor

The mass air flow sensor is a little vertical wire in a hard plastic tube usually after the air cleaner but before the air intake manifold. Many auto parts stores carry cleaners (e.g. CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner). Disconnect the air cleaner, follow instructions on can to clean the wire. A can of cleaner is usually less than $10. Much cheaper than a new sensor.

How to replace fuel filter

The fuel filter is located on the right side of the engine bay just in front of the power steering fluid reservoir. Remove the "snorkel tube" from the front of the air cleaner housing. Using the 3/8" ratchet and 10mm socket remove the support bolt for the left half of the air cleaner housing.Disconnect the electrical connector to the mass air flow sensor by turning the plastic locking ring and then gently pulling the connector off of the mass air flow sensor.There is a sealing gasket between the air flow sensor and the air cleaner housing. Theoretically, you should be able to use a 17mm and 19mm flare wrench on the connection towards the front of the car.there is a black plastic offset washer between the fuel support bracket and the side of the engine bay. Don't forget to put this back in place when putting everything back together. Here you can find more quality parts

REPLACING mass air flow sensor

The mass flow sensor on the 1999 intrigue is along the intake tube right after the air filter intake housing. Loosen the two clamps that hold the MAF sensor between the Air filter box cover and air intake tube, disconnect the wire leads at the MAF sensor connection and remove the MAF. Note it's uncommon for the MAF sensor to go bad and 95% of the time, cleaning it with MAF sensor with MAF cleaner will fix any problem it may of had to trigger the DTC codes.
Start with trying to clean it first just by following the instruction on the MAF cleaner. This should save you time and money to get your Intrigue running 100% again soon.

Our car will be going along and it just stalls, if we let it sit for a awhile it will start again, only to stall after a few minetes.

Check your air intake tubes they need to fit each connection tight also could be the MAF Sensor "Mass Air Flow Sensor" on the intake tubes could be the faulty sensor or dirty if dirty buy some MAF cleaner at any major auto parts store. And disconnect the battery and take the intake tube apart and spray the cleaner in the tube where the sensor sits this is all you have to do to clean it out. Then put everything back together they way it should go put them tight or the engine will hesitate.

Code 171 and engine light is on

--BANK 1 = DTCs P0171 (lean) and P0172 (rich)

-Check intake air system for leaks, obstructions and damage.
-Check air cleaner element, air cleaner housing for blockage.
-Verify integrity of the PCV system.
-Check for vacuum leaks.

I would try cleaning the Mass Airflow Sensor first. A dirty Mass Airflow Sensor is a common problem for triggering PO 171 & 174 codes.

Removal and Installation To Remove:
  1. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Mass air flow sensor electrical connector
    • Tube clamp at the electronic throttle control actuator
    • Air cleaner to electronic throttle control actuator tube, upper air cleaner case
    • Mass air flow sensor from the cleaner case.
To Install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • Mass air flow sensor to the cleaner case
    • Air cleaner to electronic throttle control actuator tube
    • Tube clamp at the electronic throttle control actuator
    • Mass air flow sensor electrical connector

Mass air flow sensor replacement (variable valve timing)

The MAF is on the Air Intake above the air filter box and screwed into the plastic tube heading toward the throttle body.  It is the 2" by 2" plastic protrution from the air intake tube. There should be two philips screws holding this in.  Remove the two screws and back the entire MAF out.  There is a wire harness connected, unclip this to remove completely.
If you have money burning a hole in your pocket, go ahead and purchase another MAF for a few hundred clams, or you can spend about $10 and clean it.  It's made out of titanium and I doubt it will fail in 10 years.  But sometime it does happen.
Go to Lowes, or Home Depot and buy Electronic Cleaner in a spray can.  If you look inside the sensor, there is a heated wire, and behind that is another wire which picks up the oxidized air.
Stick the tube which is attached to the electronics cleaner spray can into the cavity where these wires are seen.  Continue to spray most of the can onto these wires to remove oxidation build up from the wires.  Let it evaporate for a few minutes then hit it again.
Allow the assembly to evaporate complete for about an hour.
In the mean time, take some throttle body cleaner and spray out the throttle body with the valve open.  Keep open to let it dry out quicker and clean up the black crud that come out.
Keep you air filter replaced.
Put everything back together and you should be good to go.
